Jer ... Are you going to be there on Sat the 12th or will you be working? Your post makes it sound like you will and won't be.

I know, I know, I get the dates screwed up sometimes ... I'll be there Saturday - what I meant to say is that I could not camp Saturday night because I have to work Sunday (at QQ). But if a few folks were looking to camp Friday afternoon/evening I might be up for that .... let the conversation begin ...

Also, I'm planning to be climbing at the Quarries on Sunday and teaching a friend anchor building. If anyone wants to join us (morning, until 3 at the latest) let me know.

Flapperqueen, I'll add you to the list right now.

If you are meeting us at the carwash - flapperqueen you should consider this - look for this sign on the north side of rt. 2 in Irving between the Starlight Diner and the French King Bridge.
http://www.bowling4fun.com/1Sign2002.JPG
You can mapquest it to 55 French King Highway, Irving, MA.
There is a carwash on the same side of the highway right next to the bowling alley. Meet us in that lot at 10 am. Allow 10 minutes to get there from Greenfield (rt. 91) and a little more than an hour from Fitchburg.

more info to come.

Hey, Anyone have the route map of College rock scanned? or a website that shows it in decent detail? i'd love to have a printed out sheet instead of trying to go over to the little hut and trying to match up routes to the rock..

marshall and heather are saying 50 degrees with a chance of occassional showers on Saturday. I'm not going to freak out until Friday, because you know how the weather can be ... but if people want to suggest rain plans go right ahead.

I have no great suggestions, but maybe if the weather is terrible, people might want to meet up at a couple of rock gyms. Sunday might be an option for some, but I would not be able to make it, and I know a couple others would be baggin it too.

So if ya have a suggestion, pipe up.

Rain, huh? That sucks but at least it's not supposed to snow. I have been waiting a long time for this event so I'm hoping that the weathermen are wrong... as usual! If this climb is awash (pun intended) at least we have another planned in the near future. If you have not heard about it, or haven't signed on yet, check out the thread "Come climb @ Redrock in Gloucester, MA on Sat. May 3rd, by just clicking on this link http://www.rockclimbing.com/...iewtopic.php?t=27538.

If Saturday washes out I could climb Sunday instead, but I'd have to stay somewhere more local to me, ( Boston Area and South) QQ, College Rock, Hammond Pond all come to mind. If weather is good I'll see everyone at RL around noon on Saturday. Should I bring anything?

Yeah, my fingers are crossed big time. I've got two friends coming with and I've been trying to get one of them out for about a year now. She finally decided to take a day off on sat and come. I hope this works out for us. If not I'll proabably take them to Mill City since I can teach them to belay up there with out any hassels.

Hey, i'm pretty sure you can count me in and probably a friend or 2 from UConn, assuming it doesn't get rained/snowed out. I'll look through this thread later to find directions and whatnot, but can someone just tell me real quick whether a raindate has been set (sorry if that's been asked a lot already, but i don't have time to look through it all right now). If you change it to sunday, i might still be able to make it.

Also, is most of RL in the sun or shade, or both? In otherwords, if it rains on friday, will it be able to dry out sufficiently by saturday? I know some places only take a few hours while others take days.

If it only rains friday rose ledge should be dry on saturday ... it is south facing and the trees don't have leaves yet so sun will be plentiful ... but weather.com just told me that the weather is still looking wet for saturday. let's give it another day or two and see what the forcast says.

I'm not working Sunday anymore, so I might be climbing Sunday.

A quick note about Rose Ledge and environs ...

When I suggested RL for a get-together, I didn't anticipate that the numbers might grow to 20ish. This is a minor concern to me at this point because it is a popular crag with a main popular area that only has about 15 climbs. The overall area has over a hundred climbs, but I haven't tracked down a copy of the full (Al Rubin version) Rose Ledge guide that has all these other climbs in it.

I'm not too worried about there being too little to climb, because I know how a lot of you are adventurous and will look for more routes to get on (and there are plenty, I'm tellin ya).

What I just want to emphasize is that it might be best if we keep the "everest base camp" scenario on the down-low. Let's coordinate on gear, keep it simple and try to avoid a yard sale in the main cliff area. There will definitely be others, perhaps locals, at the crag that day and I don't want to be "that group."

I'm not trying to be a dick (it comes naturally, actually), I just don't want to impose upon perhaps RL's best attribute - a relatively wild and scenic setting that we don't get as much in the eastern half of the state.

Thanks for being cool about my anxiety ... jeremy

I'm on the fence about attending RL on sat, simply because of the weather, but I'm gonna hold off the final decision until early sat morning. If RL doesn't happen, will most likely climb at CR sunday. In fact even if I DO go to RL saturday, I'll go to CR for some close-to-home rock action.

Woo hoo!! My wife agreed to take my son to swim class Sat. morning so I get to leave earlier than I though!! :D

I'll be meeting at the crag since it's easiest fro me to go up 495 which is already west of where y'all are meeting. (And as a bonus I get to pick up the rest of my wood lathe in Colrain, while I'm " in the area.")

Unless the weather still looks iffy. That's a long way to go for wet rock. I've got room for one if there is someone from the South MA/Providence area but I do have the one detour to make on the way home.

Can't wait to finally meet everyone.

Bonesz,

I hear ya! I once knew a guy named Heg, who bartended in Vail in the winter, and tended in New Zealand in the summer. Skiied every day, drank every night. Still jealous of that man.

Me I'll have to be content with weekend climbs and some solo bouldering at QQ in the evenings after work.
