I think I like ridge proper over the gully.

I tend to prefer ridges over gullies, the exception seems to be funky narrow Scottish winter gullies where you are getting wild placements on all three walls.

I didn't read the book, but I'm having a hard time understanding how the movie could slander him when he's essentially the narrator (or the book for that matter).

Yes I did. I got maybe 200' higher this time. Last time it was a bonking partner that turned us.
