In reply to: In reply to: or just stopped logging on and posting, it would be plenty fast. ....and plenty boring. Hey, I only meant the people who have issues with the site, I'll still be here! I'm sure most of the interesting characters here will still use it if the complainers leave.

In reply to: ... Meanwhile, some of the best climbing photographers on the planet routinely submit shots (free) for the front page, John Long and Chris McNamara put up TR's, and the rambling wreck continues to putter along. I'm not sure whether to be proud of this, or horrified... Be proud. This site rocks, even with the problems. Such is life.

No matter how slow this site loads, I'll keep coming back. 8^) All the best in getting this site running at peak performance, Tim. Being a system admin/site developer, I know the problems of getting a site like this to cope with the load. I feel your pain. Thanks for doing a good job!

Typical of most popular sites in a genre, when one goes down the other(s) really pick up on traffic. I thought I was the only one experiencing these load times until tonight. It seems that when supertopo.com is down, the traffic going to rc.com really spikes. That rc.com runs on two 1999 web servers and one mysql db server is actually pretty good. Good thing that the message boards don't do threading by default. :)

Amazing! Who'd a thought that a post about poor connectivity performance would have started such a thing. Emotions all over, one of my posts being deleted... Wow! Thanks for the info, Tim. Carry on...

Because so many people are discussing the jaw dropping news of Prana being aquired by Liz Clairborne, how it affects the climbing world, the earth's gravity, and the alignment of stars in the universe. The climbing world will never been the same again.

After having a quick look at dropzone's forums, the only feature I'd like to see is the "print thread" button. There are quite a few good discussions that are worth posting on gym bulletein boards that would be easier to print if it were for a button like that. I dislike threaded mode for forums, so don't bring that over. It tends to splinter discussions and make them very difficult to follow. IMO anyway.

In reply to: In reply to: Not part of the solution?... f--- off.Mark Maybe comments like these are why he feels that way. That was uncalled for. Nah, rufus... I've been on the net long enough to be able to handle faceless, dickless wankers like that. Ironically, I DO pretty much go elsewhere, due to other interests in the climbing world and other things, but keep checking back here cause it's not a bad site. It's just incredibly sloooow lately. mr8615: Thanks for showing what the "MR" in your nick stands for, as well as a good laugh. Regardless of your ill intentions, you're quite painfully in the minority. That must make it worse for you....

I have not expierenced the problem in the original post, but I have had problems with rating posts. Every time I try to rate one I get the message: "Error in registering your vote" or simeting like that. Anyone know what that is all about? :?

I'm not sure whether to be proud of this, or horrified... It is pretty funny, when you think about it. Horrified or proud, it is what it is. I am just glad that whomever it is that owns this site finally was able to make an attempt at fixing the problems. When the site was down for many days earlier this year, I really did think that it was possible it would end up dead. There are so many people who have only the rc.com member base as their connection, and no other way to communicate, if the site would die. It would just be too dificult to find each other.

In reply to: Nope, this isn't even about content this time... For months now, on the occasion I do come here, this site has been HORRIBLE!!!! Taking minutes to load each page at times! This is true when accessing from multiple locations, different computers, etc. It's also true of each page on the site... What gives? For example, right now it just took about 5 minutes, to login, go to the forums page and open up a page for a new post... All the while I was able to view other sites in a different browser window, which were loading fine. Sad! Really sad, man.... for this site, it's worth the wait.

That must make it worse for you.... Not sure that that means, no ill intentions, it just seems like a waste of time to complain about something if you're not willing to do anything to fix it, know what I mean? If I'm in the minority who appreciates this site, enjoy's most of the people on it, and is grateful to those who do actually work to try and make it run more smoothly, then I suppose I might be in good company... What does the MR stand for? I thought it was my initials?

Tim: RC is a good thing. Be proud. Every site has technical difficulties at some point. It's just been rather ongoing, and we all appreciate the info you gave. On to the "pay or be a leach" theme from a select few (2) responders.... What a fucking load of crap!!! The whole point being made is that a whole site, bearing a base of this number of people, aren't going to pay for something they can get elsewhere, for free. This isn't saying that the site content sucks, etc. It's just a simple truth that forums do not charge for a membership to post, read the messages, etc. Frequently, the few that do, are simply bypassed by the majority. Demand it, you'll get speed alright. Cause the site will be rather empty. Fine by me, then we can get on to climbing talk and a lot less nonsense. Most forums DO receive contributions to help them stay afloat. Point me there, I'll pitch in a 20 spot. I, either monitarily or with services, do my part to give back to the community in all kinds of other spaces, so why not here too? These same forums, however, do not, typically rely, or subsist, on contributions by the members. It is usually made possible by the hard work, money and time of someone impassioned with the project. Usually a rather selfless act. People like Tim. Thanks!

The whole point being made is that a whole site, bearing a base of this number of people, aren't going to pay for something they can get elsewhere, for free. First, I don't feel that you can get RC.com anywhere else... I'm not saying pay or be a leech, I'm talking about non-constructive critics and bitching. I'm saying be appreciative to those who work hard to keep things running. Obviously you are appreciative, but you still start a thread saying this site sucks? You still insist on bitching about loading speed, in spite of your obvious appreciation of the selflessness of Tim and others like him? I mean, seriously, you think they aren't aware of the problems and aren't working on them?
