i use webbing, ropes, biners and miller OSHA rope grabs to lower 3/4" PVC spray racks over the sides of buildings from the roof to perform ASTM field static water testing. when i don't have a swing stage or a boomlift. if the curtain wall has a problem and leaks i throw on my trusty Petzl navaho complete harness, jump the parapet and rapell down to check it out. people just freak out when you rapell past there office window

Three uses I like to consider unique ... 1. Couldn't find belt in mid-road-trip car mess so grabbed a biner to clip middle two belt loops together on jeans. did the trick. actually quite fashionable. 2. Sectional (a.k.a. "L") couch sections slide apart on hardwood floor. 20 feet of webbing + equalized lashing of couch legs together keeps sections snug even when g/f and i are "test" it. 3. Webbing is lighter and takes up less space than cordage, making it excellent for manh things while backpacking. I use webbing and those cheesey "100lbs safe working load" keychain fake beaners (very light) to rig bear hangs. It never gets caught on branches and easier on the hands than small-diameter cordage when hauling up a big load of cheese and ramen noodles. ummm cheddar. Millions of uses for webbing on the trail [ This Message was edited by: orangekyak on 2002-08-30 18:21 ]

Doggy-cam. Fire a cam into a crack, clip to doggie's leash (leash is 8mm cord with biners), and doggie goes no where.

I had mistakenly left my belt at home. I was away for a month and rigged one up out of a 4 foot sling and a locking biner. G.

I used an old retired rope to rig a 2-1 haul system... to take the hardtop off of my '74 Bronco. My ascenders were great for doing the hauling.

I myself did not do this but i saw it at the gunks. I was walking down the path to some bouldering and i saw a cam set about 6-7 feet up and directly below it were one or two quickdraws. After that a budgie system hooked to a baby seat. That lucky kid was bouncing all over the place having a blast. It was awesome To be 100% truthful I really wanted to ask if I could have a try but my better part of wisdom told me not to. Rockwarrior

I used climbing webbing to make tie-downs for the roof of my car. My brother uses it to hang surfboards from the celing of his room.

I used a carabiner to attach my photo bag to my belt during my travel to Brazil, making it harder to steal the whole bag. - Some friends of mine were driving on icy road during an approach trip. At some point, driving up the hill, the car stopped and started to slide back slowly. They used two climbing ropes to tie the car to some fence near the road to stop it. Then they used their ice-axes to crash some ice on the road which allowed them to move on. I was not in that car, but I believe their story was true. Rado

I was a the base of a climb and a guy on the climb next to me couldn't get his shoes off one those older locking biners that always get stuck. He didn't want to climb "shackled" like that, but no abount of armstrength was getting the screwgate undone. I had just bought my first cam, so I shouved it in a crack and used it to load the biner and free the screw. Sure, a tree would have worked, but I was anxious to use my new cam!

I have #7 and #8 nuts that I use to tie my dog up when hiking or camping. I also use an old (booty) daisy chain for a dog leash. Let's see...webbing for tie downs in the truck, I once used my climbing helmet while doing some work at a copper mine...I had forgot my hard hat

I've used a nut tool to retrieve keys from inside a locked car. works great just like a slimjim. Also used a silver tri-cam, a piece of webbing and a fish behemoth duffel to do some car skiing. Place the tricam in your reciever hitch, hook webbing to pro and the duffel using biners. hop in (wear your climbing helmet) and have some drive your vehiicle in giant figure eights and s curves until you can't take it anymore or flip over. What a blast.

I personally think the use of biners as key chains screams out "LOOK AT ME I CLIMB! AREN'T I COOL". You probally put them on your backpack in college to meet the ladies too

Pulled down some firewood using a set of jugs a pulley, some enginuity and . . . . TIMBER! Then we tried to set up a zip line, which happened to go over my car, with a dynamic cord, pulled tight with jugs. I was the guinea pig who got to jump out of a tree from about twenty feet up and see just how tight it was. Lets just say I fell but not straight down, it was more of a downward angling fall at such a rate that i had to run across the hood and roof of my car. Static line yes, dynamic no.
