UNC, and absolutely ER. It's the only specialty wherein one can balance a dual life as a physician and a dirtbag.
Yea....though I worked with 3 CT surgeons in Missoula this summer who had a decent quality of life. And there's a CT surgeon in Kalispell who also does Wilderness Medicine. Can't tell you how much I wished I didn't LOVE CT surgery

Yeah, cutting people up is fun. Still, there's a big difference between "decent quality of life" and working half-time in the ED and the rest of your time climbing.

Yep, which is why I wish I didn't love it as much. I DO like emergency medicine, which is most certainly on the table still. Wish it were an easier choice. I suppose that's the only good point about being on the front-half. Still have like 1 month to think about it before studying for Step 1!

Have "fun" with Step 1. I flew out to Yosemite to do El Cap the day after I took it. I was so piss-ass drunk in celebration while packing up all of my stuff that I ended up leaving some crucial gear at home and dropping a good chunk of change at the Mountain Shop.
Just don't worry too much about Step 1. You'll cease to care about your score the moment you start third year.

Majid, why did you delete that post with the link to your video in it? I enjoyed watching it. It was nice to see that gear we donated put to good use in the training over there.

I have WFA, going for WFR next January. I think WEMT is somewhere in my future.
I've made this suggestion before, but unless you SERIOUSLY plan on working on an ambulance or SAR, I wouldn't put the time or money into an WEMT/EMT course.

EMT-Intermediate for 6 yrs...then I had to get a real job that would pay the bills.
My entire first aid kit fits in a ziploc bag. If that's not enough, I probably couldnt help them anyway without a whole ambulance filled with stuff, and an OR nearby.

Here's what you need to be a WFR:

There, I saved y'all $600!
Call 911!
Just be aware that (currently) not all cell phones reach the "local" 911. Some will call back to the 911 dispatcher in their area of original issue (which can be several states away). It will then take time to get you transferred to the correct responder.

Yeah... I was thinking SAR once I retire from my programming career and settle down to the simple life.
