Its possible, but if you are really torquing them you might bend them permanently. But if they do bend you can pound them back. They will be more prone to bending in the future though.

I have only bent picks when only the tip was in contact an I was really reefing on them doing shallow stienpulls. It hink BD picks cost half of what a grivel or Petzl pick cost, and the picks aren't tool specific A nd ther is only one bolt to drop if you need to do a field change. And you can use another pick to tighten and loosen the bolt.

BD pick aren't that bad if you treat them right. Ie. you don't twist them when removing your tool from the ice, you don't stike any rock, you climb with a gentle touch, and you don't climbing during a nasty Arctic Front. The Old CM picks had a similar problem in very cold weather, the old ones for pulsars, quasars, exc. Newer CM pick for Quarks and the like are stronger.

It's not that you're gauranteed to break one on a give climb, its that there are stronger pick out there that are far less likely to break on you. I've had BD pick break mid pitch... it sucks t3h ballz!

Grivel, DMM, Simond, and CM are about the burliest picks I've used in that order. And I ABUSE ice tools... I'm hard on things.
Grivel and DMM picks are the only ones (I have used extensively) that "I" have not personally broken or bent beyond repair.

I also find BD tool swing like a carpenters hammer with a wonky shaft.

This is all correct. I go through about a set of picks every year and do a lot of drytooling.

Brendon is bias against BD. I will admit it is really hard to find BD picks that aren't a little bent coming out of the box.

BD steal is pretty soft in comparison to Grivel and Petzl. It is surprising that so many people seem to have them break. Generally they will bend before they break. Grivel and Petzl just tend to snap (possibly at a higher load) without bending. BD picks get dull quick to.

Petzl thends to flex then snap. Grivel picks are more likely to bend after excessive flexing than they are to snap, I give the credit to the forging.

Though I have B rated picks on 1 set of tools I mostly use T rated (typically filed down quite a bit, but not always).
There are only 2 sets of tools that I used for more than one season that I've never had to replace a broken pick. One set is DDM Fly's (7 years on those picks, though I do have a spare set), the other is my fist pair of Taak's 5 years on a single set of pick (the first 2 years was heavy on the mixed too. The first year with them I was able to get to the 5th or 6th bolt on Musashi! <---- Right before I pealed off on lead in the middle of a figure-4 and freaked myself out.

Way cheeper to buy tools over here. I got my DDM Flys for $150 a piece when I bought them. The Taa-k's were more, $280 or something, but that was the first year they were out.

Sadly Grivel Picks cost more, but they aren't as tools specific as many think.
