Nah it is the Smith. There isn't anything even remotely close to a rapid, other than two moves of class II, but the fishing is world-class, and there is no public access for a 60 mile strip, so it is a mandatory 2-3 night float.

Hey gerks,
life is pretty gud here in Xzzz's.
I'm climbing like shit overall right now, because not climbing for 3 months with a finger injury does nothing to improve your performance, and my knee is still not 100%.
But there are unexpected bright spots here and there. Got on a climb that I bailed on, the first year in Xzzz, and barely hang-dogged last year... and while I didn't send it on the first day, I think I will, on this trip, once I get a few days of climbing behind me and get the endurance back a little bit. It seemed easier than I remembered it from last year, I linked all the moves this time... Dunno where that came from, but it felt good.
We stopped and checked out Spearfish on our way to Xzzz. Picked the worst-approach crag, it even says so in the guidebook. Dunno what we were thinking. The climbing is pretty much the same as Xzzz. I liked it. I'd go there again. The town of Spearfish is quite a bit more hippie-touristy than Xzzz, bc Devils tower, Mt Rushmore, Needles, Custer State park, etc, are all within couple hours... and there would be more stuff to do on rest days, too.
The highlight of the Spearfish climbing day was an 11c on which I full-on heel-hooked and rocked over on the gimp leg, for the first time since the surgery, and it worked. I made a lot of funny noises while pulling that move, and Banz is still giving me shit about it.
(I was on the worst position ever, only one bolt clipped, 5 feet away from the bolt line and 5 ft above it, and there was no way for Dan to keep the rope so I wouldn't swing into it... I couldn't downclimb and couldn't take without taking a rather unpleasant fall... So I pulled it. And with my gimp heel on a sloper, and nothing for the other foot, I, of course, couldn't reach the next hand hold, after fully manteling on the other hand.
Apparently Banz was yelling for me to grab the next draw, bc at that point I was in groundfall territory, bc of some boulders at the bottom. He says he yelled it a few times. And Matt confirms it. But I didn't hear him, I didn't even see that i could grab the draw at that point, so I found a little something, and stood up from the squat on the gimp leg, and clipped the draw from there, and continued climbing, until I got to the rest spot... and then I cried.)

Not much to report here. Had a great day at <the cliff that shall not be named>. Kinda sorta flashed Oosik. I mean, I actually redpointed it, but I'd only been on it once, around eight years ago. Got on some other cool routes that I don't know the names of. Then some seriously kick-ass BBQ at Bub's. I have never had better BBQ in the northeast, for whatever that's worth.

Hey gerkz! Just finishing up almost two weeks of not climbing. It's been good. Went to a sister's weeding in Georgia last week, we rented a beach house and basically drank and beached with family and friends for a while. Met the sisters gnu in laws, who are Swedish. It was rad.
Then picked up the new lady friend in NC, and went to this place called hatteras island on the outer banks. The place is amazing. Super long island that is barely half a mile wide by like 40 miles north to south. Like twenty miles out from the mainland. Windswept sand dunes, awesome wildlife like frogs, crabs, lizards, oh and ticks and sharks too! There were like six shark attacks while we were there. Camped at a rad spot that was walking distance to beach, and just surfed for like four days in what were apparently really good conditions. I think I stood up for like five seconds on my best go.
Seriously tho, it was rad, and a way good break from climbing. Definitely the coolest beach ocean stuff I've seen on the east coast.

I've to teh Old Gnu the last three saturdays ... managed to zend the Endanger This on the last day out there. Heading up to the Bare Carg this weekend with the Mangler - CI, you should come out.
Also got my tickets booked for a week in Ceuse two months from nau.

Yesterday was Canada Day and I had the day off werk. Drove 2.5 hours south to hang out with my friends and start setting problems on their new home wall that Nathan has spent 2.5 making for them.
This wall is rucking rad! Nathan blew out the ceiling and put in a massive support beam so there wouldn't be any floor joists in the way. It's a 2+ car garage with 10ft (could be a bit taller than that) ceilings. their 55degree wall has 15ft of climbing surface or so, and it's tall enough for a proper Moon board and campus board.
We figure we put up at maybe 700 holds yesterday and the place still looks empty. Nathan and I estimated that they will need a minimum of 1500 holds with at least 2000 holds for reasonable density.
I only took one photo and tossed it up on instagram. Unfortunately, for good photo framing I had to cut off the top of he wall.

I'm going to Cape Breton for a wedding at the end of the month. We'll be driving so I'm hoping we can stop in New Brunswick for a day or two for climbing. There's a nice tall cliff there that I've been to before that I'd like to get back to.
