No, way! We had a bear encounter at Bishop's Terrace, too! with a big blue #4 ear tag and gps collar. Wouldn't run away and did not like my whistle, either! We found out later from a ranger that blue #4 has a bad attitude. Maybe he's your bear, too!

To be clear, that bear did not make me climb any faster. I'm bummed there is no photo to post of it, however.

It's head was behind a tree as it moved along by the time I saw it and Jeremy said he didn't see if it was tagged. Might have been the same one you saw - I'm glad he had other things on his mind when we saw him! Getting a photo of him would have required running after him and I'm pretty sure that's not one of the recommended behaviors to exhibit around a bear.

Was the bear wearing a Camelback? If so, it owes me, bigtime. GO

Actually, I learned a little trick: - Attach the photos using the "upload" attachment button - Post the message - Click on the attachments so that a new window comes up - Click on the url in the new window and copy it - "Edit" the original post - Paste the url in the message and put the "url /url" brackets around the url and - Voila!

Hey all! Somewhat newish here...I resurface every few months. Anywho, I just moved to a new area with NO climbers. Let me rephrase that...there are guys I climb with but I'm the best one...which is extremely sad, to put it nicely. I'm looking for a buddy or a group to join up with for evening/weekend stuff. I'm generally at BRG on Tuesday nights but am open to suggestion (other than Wednesday and Friday nights). I can generally on-sight 5.9s (depending on amount of overhanginess) and can get 5.10s (a's and b's) after watching someone else try them. No lead experience other than on lead belay, but I'm looking to learn that too. I also make a killer sandwich...pb&j is my roadside specialty with all manner of meat/cheese/whatever with the necessary amenities. If that doesn't sell you, nothing will. :-) Anyways, message me if you're interested in pulling plastic sometime to see if we click and go from there!

Hey folks, Hit Farley with a bunch of people this Saturday and had a good day. It was a MetroRock reunion day on Sat, as there were several other familiar faces there, too. I've got that post up, and a link to the pics are at the bottom of the post. Still working on Day #2 of Yosemite. It's been a difficult project thus far. I may just take tomorrow off to get caught up with that and some other things around the house. Kat - welcome to the group. I'll be at Metro on Thurs evening, too. Greg

I'm either going to be there at 6pm or 7pm Thurs, depending on who my partners are. If we are an odd number (or even if not), you're welcome to join in with us.

Hinfiolks I'm back, actually I was back at abotu 1:30 today, here's the short version: 1. wednesday, I revisited Artist's Bluff Right Side Route, and did an alternate P2, which after a kinda fun series of moves getting out onto a slabby face with a traverse, and finding a blueberry thicket on a small ledge, turned out to be kind of a drag, and even included bushwhacking up some blocky and ledgy 5.2. bleh the other P2, up the slab and out onto the face, that I did last summer, is much more enjoyable. 2. in my TR from last august, I made acomment about believing that I could free solo the 5.5 artist's bluff standard route. so I did. it was both exciting and somewhat anticlimactic. 3. wedensday was just a warmup for thursday. I met up with Amy (seeker on rc.com) and we hiked in to the table mountain slabs (2 miles up the mountian) , found the bug eat frogs rap station after a bit of hunting, and wer able to get in the two pitches of Holy Smoke before being chased off by the rain. I have pics adn video I'l post later. Table mountain is back country, and even involved mention-worthy bushwhacking to get to teh base, come up to the top trail from the odd rap station or two. definitely worth the hike. amy has an awesome cabin she built herself. props. today I was on the fence about more climbing , and felt a bit rubbery of leg due to the hiking and slabbing on thursday. ultimately I didn't feel like climbing with the prospect of at 3 hour motorcycel ride waiting ( yeah I rode the burgman up, 160 miles packed fulla gear, it LOVED the kanc. me too.) so I cleaned up the condo packed up and hit the road. two awesome days of climbing, I simply can't get enough of the pemigewasset area...

pics from table mnt... Amy rapping from the Bugs Eat Frogs rap station tree: clipped to the BEF P1 belay bolts amy reads the route directions before we continue to the bottom. we were looking around at BEF and its VERY thin on gear: after scrambling and bushwhacking to the start of Holy Smoke, Amy heads up p1 5.5. gear was thin. Amy belays me up HS P2 5.2. gear was thin, bolts mentioned in the guidebook weren't anywhere to be found. there were a couple longish runouts: close up of amy belaying from the HS P1 belay Standing at the HS rap station, with amy rapping down. the rain chased us away within the next 20 minutes when we were both at the HS P1 bolts, we had felt slight sprinkles, adn amy suggested tieing off the green rope, and continuing down the yellow packing up and then self belaying up the yellow, reclimbing Holy Smoke. so that's what we did, we were using her new twins, it was funny rapping down on her "clothesline" as she called it. she self-belayed up on her reversino, and I on my cinch. at the P1 bolts again, I tied into the green rope and she top-belayed me up P2. ulitamtely we got to climb 4 pitches on Table, though we wound up repeating Holy Smoke on top rope. Turned out to be the right idea because the rain moved in quickly and we hunkered down in the brush just above the HS rap tree, to eat a bit of lunch. then we bushwhacked thru the fricken jungle back to the attitash trail and hiked out. I want to go back when it's not threatening rain. and bring a machete for the bushwhacks
