has anyone here seen the princess bride? it has some awesome climbing!

the book has even more, the dread pirate roberts free solos the last half of the cliffs of insanity, after climbing a rope up the first half with only his arms. as i understand, the cliffs of insanity are real, but i dont know the real name or location.
does anybody know the real name?

Yes, the Princess Bride is one of my all time favourite movies, but the "Cliffs of Insanity" looked more like a movie set than a real set of cliffs.

It would have been nice to see Cary Elwes free solo the top half of the cliff rather than just grab the rope and get dragged up.

I remember watching that movie years and years ago before I was a climber and thinking it was impossible that he could have held on to the cliff face like that. I just watched the movie recently and the cliff looks like it would go at 5.8! I can't believe my change in perspective now that I'm a climber.

The princess bride IS my all-time favorite movie. I actually have most of it memorized (eww, not the kissing part, skip on to the fire swamp)...but unlike echocliffchic, the first time I saw wesley hanging on to those cliffs, struggling I though "well, if he would just take off those gloves it would be like climbing a ladder!" I guess the exposure is pretty bad, though.

I HATE (did I say HATE, I mean REALLY HATE) this movie! It's so friggen stupid. Half-dead... What the hecks half dead. And if some chick ever asked me to roll off some huge hill it wouldn't be "As you wish..." it would be "Go .... yourself."
On a closing note I must say that I HATE THAT FRIGGEN MOVIE!

(I might add I saw it for the first time when I was 18 with my ex-girlfriend. It was her favorite movie.)

I wonder if Fesic was winched up or if he really can haul three people up a rope hand over hand.

"I will not acept excuses. I am just going to have to find myself a new giant."

"Do you want me to send you back to where you were? Unemployed? In Greenland?"

[Vizzini has just cut the rope The Dread Pirate Roberts is climbing up]

Vizzini: HE DIDN'T FALL? INCONCEIVABLE!

Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

the book has many differences from the movie, but in one part its talking how no one has ever climbed the cliffs. the best part is
inigo: "offer me money"
count rugen: "everything"
inigo: "power too, promise me that"
count rugen: "all i have and more. please"
inigo: "offer me anything i ask for"
count rugen: "yes. yes. name it"
inigo: "I want Domingo Montoya, you
son of a bi*ch"

and then (only in the book) he cuts
his heart out (in the movie he just
runs him through.)

Arrived in the mail yesterday: Princess Bride (Special Edition) and This is Spinal Tap. Looks like a Rob Reiner film festival for me this weekend. We've owned the VHS for years. Can't wait to see the extras.
