K, So for 3 years I had a climbing trainer who was also my best friend. He fell "in love" with me. Unfortunately the feelings werent the same on my side. We kinda had it out and he made up this new girlfriend. OH by the way hes in his 40's. Well, for about 10 months now, Ive been trying to get him to climb, but he keeps making excuses as to why he cant (girlfriend reasons).
So yesterday I had had enough and I put up a few posts on net climbing bulletin boards, looking for a new trainer. WELL< low and behold, I get an email today that he saw my posts and well, his gf broke up with him today, so hey we can climb on Sunday!!!

UGH MEN! But whatever I got my man!!!!!!

That is awful behavior coming from anyone. Honestly, I do not know that I would still trust this guy as a climbing partner let alone be any where near him.

Jebus. It sounds like you could stand to have a few more climbing partners lined up that don't have such issues.

See if you can get a group thing going. Set up a yahoogroups account and send out e-mail messages saying when you want to climb. That's what my friends and I do. We ended up creating a mixed group with 1/3 women and 2/3 men. It's been great and no one gets all possessive and weird about who they partner up with.

My friends and I do the same thing and it works out pretty well. There is always someone who wants to climb and no one ever feels left out.

Just wanted to thank ya all for the replies. In defense to him though, I guess I should have been clearer about something. It is my assumption that the girlfriend was "made up", only because it began and ended so conveniently, as well as the fact that I never did meet her? Anyways I climbed together with him last night, but am not sure how well the training will go, as his head does not seem to be in it. So puttin it out there.. if you live in the Lower Mainland, BC, let me know!! b]

LOL. I knew a guy who used to say the same thing about women... :) HA! Never thought I'd hear that again.

One climbing group we have is called "onegreenbottle" after the book of the same name. There's been at least one group spin-off due to one guy getting tired of this prickhole constantly buddying up to his wife. Funny stuff. You find out where you stand when you no longer get invited to join the new groups.

Hey BCmtn_grl, if you start your own group name it "Vycan'tvechustclimb?"

The quote is actually attributed to John Salathe of Yosemite fame. It is often brought out to lament that something is interfering with the climbing, like soap operas with partners. A perfect moto!

I will be happy to join your new group, but I can't promise that I can meet any of you at the crag since the drive from Austin, TX is just too far! Remember to advertise your group to people climbing near you as we do. For that, you should always pack a pen and paper. Lax accounting of the beer tab is always a good group tradition.
