News guy said it was gonna be really cold, and he was wrong. It was a nice day. Man, in sunny Southern California the weather guy is right 99.9% of the time... He says it'll be sunny and warm, and he's right. rrrADAM

I never listen to those news guys, I have found if there is a 50% chance or less for cold or rain, go for it, you will be right most of the time.

Weather(person) was right on! We climbed MD Heights yesterday and it was friggin cold, windy etc..This is one of the warmer climbing areas in Md/W.Va. I couldn't feel my fingers half way up the climb. Sun was behind the clouds more than not. Still was fun. Charlie

Great Falls was nice all day. T'was a tad chilly, but we just hit the less exposed climbs to get out of the wind. Nice to have a place so close so you can make last minute decisions about climbing outside!

I'm planning on Great Falls with some friends too. We'll probably be at Romeo's Ladder. Although we usually don't drag our a**es out there until 11:00 or noon (if we're lucky)!

Where's that ??? I'm between the Solomans and Prince Frederick on Rt 4. And Karen and I only have Saturdays off. Sat night on the way back from climbing if it's on the way home. re: This Sat, if the weather sucks, we'll be at EarthTreks for the same times listed above.

You had to bag it yesterday right? I went with my girlfriend to paddle around on the Dihedrals, I was somewhat unimpressed. Is it really that low-angle or were we at some other plaque? I would be very interested in a trip to Old Rag in the coming week(end)s. Or Annapolis Rocks, for that matter. But Old Rag really looks like the kind of climbing I love -- granite splitter cracks, nasty approach, etc. I used to think I had to do a 6-8 hour road trip to North Carolina for that kind of climbing. Nearby multipitch granite still seems to be limited to the Southeast but I'd be psyched to find a local crag resembling Mt. Woodson to work on my crack leads, and it sounds like Old Rag fits the bill. Anyone who wants a partner for Old Rag (I have a rack & ropes, none of that s--- is a problem, just need warm bodies cause my girlfriend isn't up for the drive+hike), PM me at your leisure...

We climbed at the Aid box Sat, the weather was perfect, from about 10 till 12 30 it was quite full. Old Rag is great for cracks, we were up there two weeks ago at the PATC wall. Man I hate that hump up that hill !! it seems like it never ends. I think we are heading to Looking Glass NC this weekend to give the Nose a shot. Pat.

Looking Glass is great, ever climbed on eyebrows before? It's freaky... GREAT location and piece of rock though. Love Asheville. Have fun! I'm hoping to make it back down there this summer to finish up the Nose (my little picture in my profile is from the first belay station; I agreed that we would bug out if my girlfriend decided she didn't want to climb the whole thing, and she did, so we did) and hopefully try out one of the aid routes on the North side. Lots of great mountain biking down there too -- we hit Tsali last time we were there, great loop. [ This Message was edited by: jabbeaux on 2002-04-29 06:04 ]

This will be my first time climbing there,I've never climbed eyebrows before, looking forward to it though. I think you got the location right at GF. I have only been to that area once and felt the same as you. Old Rag needs to be climbed early or late in the season as the undergrowth makes it almost impossible to get into the climbing areas. Anytime before the end of May is good and then starting in Oct. I may go up next weekend to, there's an awesome crack called Strawberry fields thats in the reflector oven area that i want to get on, If you want to check it out you are welcome to come along. Also if you are up for the road trip this weekend to NC by all means come along, we will be leaving Frid night and returning Mon afternoon. Pat T.
