Here's a PDF geologic map of the area. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/...61/connellsville.pdf

There are maps for most of the state listed by topo quad name here:
http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/...map61/glossaryC.aspx

You'll have to find the exact location and search for a descrption of the formation. Looks like a fine grained sandstone from the pics.

It's sandstone from the pottsville group or as the british like to say "gritstone"
