KC, sorry I didn't call. I caught a nasty cold the kids brought home from school, so the bc was out for me this weekend. I told Klaus I would show him around the rest of Monarch this Sat. If you wanna go, I could use the company. 8^) BTW: My beacon came in on Fri. , thanks for the call. Vince

Hey Gary, Yeah, that's where we planned to go if I couldn't find somewhere better. We did quite a bit of the Devil's Thumb trail, which was very nice. The snow closer to Nederland was really hard-packed and icy from all of the foot traffic, but it was much nicer the further away you got. I have to say, it kicked my ass but good! Marketa on the other hand, was grinning from ear to ear, since it has been close to ten years since she has skied. We plan to go out next weekend to Jim Creek trail near Winter Park. The highlight of the trip back was me trying to get a boot into a ski just before crossing a footbridge. I slip and the ski rockets into the creek while the f-bomb slides just as abruptly from my lips.

Vince I had to help Steve move into his new pad on Saturday myself. So I wasn't doing anything anyhow. When I spoke with Jill she said the basement was being worked on so I figured that was probably enough. Monarch sounds like a good plan as usual, but I am still eyeing that Wolf Creek descent. It's a do able trip for a day from the Springs. A long day, but if we can nab it, more than worth it. No problem checking on the beacon, I'm afraid we didn't do much except confirm they sent it out.

Wolfcreek is tempting, I've already commited to Monarch on Sat. Klaus is staying in Salida and skiing the area on Sun. I told him I would meet him at the top of the pass 9am.

Looks like we are headed to Jim Creek this Saturday, which is only a 2.3 mile trail. So we will probably go somewhere else after that. I've been checking out some other places as well. I hope to fare better this time. Ha ha ha! Must...hold...tongue.

Tim, Montezuma has some really good touring trails which are great for the turn challenged. Also on the south side of Guenella pass there is a good xc trail although I can't think of the name right now. It has an open gate there and sign with a xc skier on it. I think it is about 1-2 miles south of the old Geneva Basin ski area.

Make sure if you go there that you approach it from 285 and the road was closed near the top of the pass last time we were up there.

Nice! That is hard to believe, about Scott that is. It's hard to get him roped in. :D Are you joining us at Monarch this weekend? Is that the tree run we did on the last lap with the long traverse? Anyway, looks like you had a good day!

I am keeping my eye to the west though, as we may be getting a decent Northwest flow. You might consider Berthoud for Saturday if they keep getting snow. I'll stay in touch.

I got a skiing guide book the other day that has a ton of maps in it and rates all of the trails for difficulty, frequency of use, etc. They rate difficulty on a 1-5 scale, with 5 being expert. We looked up Devil's Thumb and it was a 5. Ha ha ha! Duh. Well, if that is on the harder end of things and I could sort of deal with it, I think I'll actually enjoy what we do this Saturday. There's about a dozen trails around Brainard Lake Rd. we might go do. It's off of hwy. 72. It's cool that this guide book author is wary of having you drive I-70, and instead focuses on the peak to peak hwy access.

Gary...you have the market on extremely cool pics! Way to go!!! :) So on Sunday I hit the groomers with a "new slider". Some of you know Amber and we took of Sunday, draggin Bustinmins in tow and her rock monkey and headed out to WP. It is always awesome to see someone get on the snow. She did great. I will never forget her squealing out "I CAN'T HEAR YOU" once she started moving (ie NO Beta on the move please) The last bit of the run down to the base is a little steep and potentially intimidating to a new rider. I think the folks found it highly entertaining to see skier holding riders hands and "falling leaf" down the slope. http://coskiing.com/albums/WP/IMG_1277.jpg http://coskiing.com/albums/WP/IMG_1276.jpg

Gary, nice pics! It looks like you followed the same route? Sorry we did'nt hook up. Jill has had my cell phone for the last two weeks because of the construction at the house. As you saw Klaus and I did the full tour Sat., not to bad even with the lack of new snow. The chute on the back bowl looks inviting, better hit that on a stable day. Wonder what the slope angle is? Anyway, I picked up a pair of teledaddy's in a 173cm. They are phat! I just need to find some freerides on the cheap so I can ski 'em. Vince

It looks like Marketa and I are going to go back to the Brainard Lake area again this Saturday and do a little more cross country. I took pictures at Long Lake and then noticed how similar the peak outlines were to a photo I took with Tracey on Lone Eagle Peak. It appears that it is the east and west side of Apache Peak. Very cool!

Lisa, Sweet! Sounds like you guys had a good time. Great time of year to get into it. If you get her hooked now, it's really cheap to get into the gear you need. I just got a new pair of boots for $140 that were just over $200 at the beginning of the season. Gotta love it! Vince, Yeah we basically followed your skin track for access and took slightly different lines for drops. We could see your tracks from earlier. It was a great day. Berthoud was really nice yesterday, but it is Spring break. The lot was full, just like on a weekend. Are you free this Saturday. Looks like we are going to get a good shot of snow by the weekend up North, possibly down south too.

^^^There are plenty of Rockclimbing days a coming. You should get out so I can make a hero out of you and Shanna too. The snow is really starting the fly. I for one am going to take advantage of it. Soon enough there won't be much snow and plenty of warm days to hit the rock. I am going out Tuesday, we are supposed to get another shot. You and the lady should make some turns.

Vince, Are you going to come down with something for Friday? I am trying to get Mr Thompson to maybe rent a room in Salida for Friday night, maybe even down at South Fork so we can hit Wolf Creek pass Friday-Saturday, which I think is a terrific idea. You could call in sick to work with Anal Glaucoma. You just don't see your ass coming into work that day!

Gary, I don't think I have enough visine to cover that. I had an eye problem yesterday and went to A-Basin with my kid to cure it. It was pretty nice for the area...I think I can get out Sat. but Wolf Creek is one hellva drive. Let me know what your final plans are and I'll see what I can work out.
