Now there is really no place to climb in AZ this summer. The forest service just closed all of the Coconino Forest effective June 26. This includes Jack's Canyon. Phoenix Rock Gym...here we come!!!!

*complete and utter devastation* ok, time to go buildering at UofA and hope the campus police don't catch me OK, time for me to scream again: the second half of this big fire, that pushed things over the edge, was started by a lost hiker, signaling for attention from a news helicopter overhead that was.. um, FILMING A FOREST FIRE. good one, genius, there's already a raging forest fire within miles of you, so what do you do? start another one now hundreds of homes and businesses (and trivially, crags) have been lost because of one moron. some people really need to have #5 cams placed where the sun don't shine, ya know? OK, end rant that said, please join me in a rain dance *still mourning* ~Hillary (the Jacks freak)

*LOL* yeah socal sucks dude. like there's only one .14a dude and after you've like totally wired it dude there's like nothing left to do. so like I wanted to check out A Z dude but like its totally on fire dude. so now I have to climb at williamson again dude but like the road to there is on fire too dude so I have to make the gnarly drive to frickin pasadena dude just to get to frickin Williamson dude where there is like one 5.13 that i've got totally wired dude. No, seriously, I need to get out more and climb on different types or rock. I've always heard that the climbing at Jack's is rad, but everytime I plan a trip there, my plans get diverted. -Jay

Rock diva- how is the weather right now in the city, are you desperately seeking shade and not climbing mid day or is it bearable?

Rocknpowda - It's hot in the City, but there are plenty of routes in the shade. We were climbing all day, sun and shade. Those Idaho boys don't seem to be bothered by the sun!

Hey linsdog that cloud was a smoke plume not a thunderhead. He he he Nah it really sucks here right now. So many plans on hold. But we have some hidden gems here. Where there is a will there is a way. Right climbsomething! Hey JT sorry about your trip. Jacks is cool and I think you would like it. I will PM you as soon as it opens up again. Till then I'll be in Utah! Oh yeah rock_diva. Brag Brag Brag! But you'll have to come back sometime! And be stuck climbing at the gym like the rest of us. I too mourn the closing of Jacks So now, with virtually nothing lef to climb in AZ...road trips are the way to go. Anybody want to go to Yosemite? Consider this a desperate plea: I had a trip planned to Yosemite for the 11th -14th, but my ride's car broke down and he'll be flying. I can't afford a plane ticket and don't have a car, but I am still trying everything I can to get there. I live in Tucson, but chances are I can get to Phoenix to meet if somebody there would be willing to carpool. I have a friend waiting in the Valley for me... he says it's been beautiful there. Gorgeous weather... highs in the 70s and 80s everyday! And who can pass up Yosemite? It's... well... Yosemite! So as if that's not reason enough on it's own, have pity on a poor stranded Arizonan. Andria (aka cragchica) P.S. Did I mention... my first born and/or indentured servitude can be thrown into the deal.

Williamson Rock is in the Angeles National Forest in the mountains just northeast of L.A. The nearest town is Wrightwood. It's about an hour's drive from Pasadena, if that helps. Maps-on-us.com shows that it is 350 miles from Phoenix. The type of rock is "highly featured granite." It is hard like Yosemite granite, but rougher, but not grainy or crystally like quartz monzonite. There are approximately 300 sport routes; no gear. Ratings from 5.6 to 5.13a. Angle from slabby to moderately overhung. Elevation 6500'. Temperatures in the shade are in the 70s. -Jay
