These are the greatest biners I have ever seen, used, owned!!! Unlike most lightweight biners they are not so small I can't even clip them. Notchless gate "like a keylock but better" and they have awesome action. GET SOME!!! Sport, trad, whatever...

Yeah, the Heliums just float on your rack and they make your voice go squeaky funny.

AGAIN - did you RTA? Old recall. Just got 2 dozen of the Heliums myself and THEY ARE AMAZING. Highly recommended biner. I can't wait for the Spectres so I can upgrade all the prowires that are currently on my cams. Then I'll be pimpin with nothing but 33g 10kn open gate biners. I get tingly thinking about it

that recall is almost a year old- i sent mine back and got them back fixed a couple months later. the only thing about the Shield i dont like is that twisted wire gate- for some reason i cannot explain, it creeps me out. s'alright, though- the heliums make me happy. :)

In reply to: the only thing about the Shield i dont like is that twisted wire gate- for some reason i cannot explain, it creeps me out. s'alright, though- the heliums make me happy. :) I love the Heliums, but would like to see what the shield comes out as and how it really feels. The strength specs for the Shield look like they may be even higher than origonally posted: update here strength and availability ---->http://www.rockclimbing.com/gear/product.php?p=3493 To me, the Heliums are a little stiff for easy clipping, I had them out last night and was clipping bolts. One thing for sure, even with a full length Dynema sling doubled over to quick draw length, they are amazingly light. Regards: Bill

Heliums _are_ nice. Recently at Red Rocks (Vegas) I loved using as much of my 70-meter rope those classic Grade III and Grade IV routes would let me. Switching out all biners on my rack and carrying well over a dozen full length runners (Mammut 8mm spectra slings) outfitted with Heliums..... I didn't complain about the weight. After 200 pitches at Red Rocks, the red anodyzing on the Heliums took a beating from the sandstone. Some individuals might not appreciate the "antiqued" look that happens fairly rapidly, I do. And after simul-rapping 8 pitches, the Helium I used as the Brake Bar in a Carabiner Brake (to add descending friction to my primary rappeling device) had a significant groove in the middle of the spine. It was a planned test; the wear was greater than I expected. A thicker cold-forged biner makes a more durable Brake Bar biner. david yount.
