My wife comes out with me once a month or so. She rarely climbs mostly she just sits and enjoys the outdoors and chatting with friends. On days that she doesnt climb I never have her belay, I dont want her to think that I bring her out just to be a belay slave. On the days that she does climb I am VERY carefull in giving her beta. If I am too helpfull she feels that I am treating her as if she is dumb or as if I think that she has no respect for how scared she is. For some reason if a friend gives the same beta it is fine coming from them. I also have to remember that when she says she is done I have to respect that. I cannot treat her like my partners by ribbing, teasing, or insulting them to make that one last move. She takes these attacks not as motivation but as a reflection of her. So I guess the answer is to make it fun above all else. No attempting that R/X scarefest when the wife is out.

Actually Pumpkin, I envy your girl friend. I broke up with my boyfriend, who calls himself a climber, one month ago. He never asked me to go climbing. We were doing hiking several times, not climbing. Even, the day he asked me just being friends, When i asked that i could watch your climbing, he just said to me- "if you are lucky" Do you think he is a real climber? Oh, by the way,"If you can compare climbing to sex than you may be doing both wrong" what`s the difference between them, Mike? Take care [ This Message was edited by: eunky on 2002-07-03 15:39 ] [ This Message was edited by: eunky on 2002-07-03 15:48 ]

I married my climbing partner. Oh sure, we still climb a couple times a week. You know, make "climbing" dates, in advance. It's not as spontaneous as it used to be... Don't get me wrong. It's still good, just different, I guess. cman.

I dated a climber before I climbed... it didn't take much prodding to get me out to the crags. It worked well, we did a day trip with a long approach with fairly easy roped climbing to get to the top of a beautful peak. I already loved hiking. I thought of it as one step up (literally and figuratively) to climb with a harness and rope. I was hooked after that. He tracked down a friend who had gear I could borrow so I didn't have to make a huge (to a 17-year-old) investment right away. Now I realize dating climbers is great. For me, the climber man embodies everything I respect in a partner - someone who's athletic, outdoorsy, usually fairly intelligent and thoughtful, willing to take chances, yet generally laid back. I used to date triathletes... what was I thinking?!?! too competitive

I have asked my wife a ton of times to come with me. She always says No I will keep trying, she sais she would love to do it but is afraid of heights bad. When we are in a hotel or somewhere high she can't even look out the window. I don't understand! I love to be high
