I have my fingernails painted about half the time anyway, so I guess it's not really atypical to have them laquered up whilst climbing. liner and mascara, I dunno. just depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

In reply to: thanks for the free pop psychology! that's what I was hoping for. cool. Ah, a smart ass! Right on. Let's review: I said (in part) in the OP:
In reply to: I know two ladies, my wife and her best friend. One is not enamoured of makeup and rarely uses while the other literally will not walk out of the house to get the mail without putting on the face she keeps in the jar by the door. To which you in part replied:
In reply to: this question makes a possibly fundamental erroneous assumption that the "normal" state of women is wearing make-up. . .as in, "you usually wear it but do you wear it climbing?" But if you will review my self-quote above you will see I made no such assumption, in fact I specifically worded it to avoid that assumption. Therefore, you were projecting your own erroneous assumption into my question. I took exception to that and said so. The Defense Rests. DMT

If I decide to climb in the middle of the day, my makeup is probably all ready on. My foundation is awsome sun block. If I am going climbing though I wear sunblock and lipgloss (I havn't found a chapstick that works better than my Almay lipgloss). When I ski I wear my foundation because it last all day, I don't have time to reapply sunblock to my face. But then the foundation tells me to have fun so I put lavender eyeshowdow on. That powders my eyelashes so I have to wear a touch of mascara. I don't wear lipstick though. Lipstick sucks. What gets me is when I go work out at the gym at 5:30 and not only have people put on make up, but they've done their hair! Is it really worth the time to shower twice?

i made the grave tactical err of wearing makeup to go skiing once in high school. let it also be said that i am a rather poor skier. we have pictures of me with mascara/black eyeliner smeared/melted all the way down my face like i'm in KISS. its gross. that being said i have been known to show up at the gym to climb in decked out makeup. this usually occurs sunday afternoons when my parents had me go to church with them, and since we have to dress up for that, i wear makeup. or if i'm taking a boy climbing, who i think is cute. then i'll prolly wear makeup. but out cragging... highly unlikely.

The only makeup that is fitting on a climber is sweat and chalk...otherwise, it's ridiculous.

Is it really worth the time to shower twice? tell me about it -- there's this one person at my gym who is meticulously groomed every single time i see her. more power to her, though -- alls i know is i'm not one to bother with that stuff except under the most "extreme" situations (eg a rare non-outdoors related outing out on the town). it's nice to get decked out once in a blue moon...

In reply to: In reply to: In reply to: In reply to: In reply to: Um. No. Next question? Do you wear underwear when climbing? DMT She wears purdy pink ones http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos.php?Action=Show&PhotoID=18019 See? I may not be pretty, but dammit, I'm civilized. Absolutely! Mwah! They are better than the supergirl ones I wore for that first lead. haha, while we're on the topic one of my old climbing partners never wore underwear climbing (he was/still is male, so much worse!) he was convinced that going commado or freeballin' or whatever you call it was much more confortable with a harness on, i'm just thankful we never split them while i was belaying.

Once I saw these girls touching up makeup at the end of the approach. They were wearing such cute outfits, too, complete with hats, hoop earings, etc. I automatically assumed that they would suck, but they started climbing, and they rocked. I don't wear makeup (I can hardly remember to bring my toothbrush on climbing trips), but I decided then and there that no amount of powder foundations or hoop earings will make me judge another climber. If you can pull it off, more power to ya.

So there's this stuff called shisedo. It's girls make up and it's really water/sweat proof. It's got SPF in it (you can get different levels). That stuff is what I've been wearing since I was surfing in Hawaii as a kid. it's super useful. and it stays on. and it's, well, good for hiding zits... I've never been sunburned with it on. lots of pro surfers use it too. http://www.sca.shiseido.com/...products/12548_m.jpg here's the website: http://www.sca.shiseido.com/ hosh. doesn't the makeup fetish conflict with the minimalism?

I don't wear makeup, but then again, I'm not a girl. I don't think it really matters so long as you're doing it for your own internal reasons, as it should be with everything in life.
