Hi all,

I am heading up to the Moose's Tooth in a few weeks and was just trying to get an idea what the ice is looking like this season. I have heard that there is still significant snow in Talkeetna. Does this bode well for good ice conditions?

you will probably get better info from TAT or Doug G as they are ferrying people all the time and have up to the minute info. Who are you flying with? Pilots know more than you think...

I have a friend that just did Ham and Eggs last week and said that conditions were good. Evidently, there has been unusually good weather in AK this year and the ice is really good.

I was in the Ruth from April 16th to May 5th. Shaken not Stirred was not in due to the lack of ice in the area but Ham & Eggs was getting done, according to Paul. It was quite the crowd there on the 5th.
It was my 3rd season (02, 04, 05) rolling into Talkeetna on April 16th. This was the 1st time I have seen snow in parking lots & on the side of the road (piled 6 feet high). Some of the side streets had snow also. But the range had a warm dry fall which seems to have affected some routes. The West Face Couloir was lacking ice on pitch 2 and the anchors in the rock in the couloir are out of reach.
Last i heard the WFC was:
pitch 1 near vertical ice.
Pitch 2 was mostly 5.8 rock with no pro.
Pitch 3 was "stout"
pitches 4-6 were 50 to 60 degree ice.

The upper ice field was exactly that.

I'd say the weather was 50-50 for us but we were in the Tokositna.

jderekforrester ask your buddy if the anchors in the rock on H&E's were had to reach. Just curious
