Someone posted a thread on supertopo about it. Said the base of east wall was clear on saturday, but that they got 8 inches of wet snow on sunday. 3 feet of snow at the summit. Also, a big block broke off of the Line.

yep. sloppy wet snow over the last few days. most of the new stuff melted off today. which leaves us with the regular slowly melting snowpack. on saturday, you should be able to climb just about everything... but you will have to deal with snow at the base of everything also.

A block broke off The Line? Any idea where? Did we lose that great overhang at the top? I've climbed that route a bunch of times. It's hard to imagine any changes--though rock fall happens, of course. I first did that route--Gulp!--26 years ago, a spooked 16-year-old climbing without caming devices and no chalk. Cheers, Scott

We're going for it. See you up there. If the snow is too deep, we will climp Phantom. Here is a fun web cam of Strawberry base: http://www.saber.net/~bagee/#Amateur

Does anybody know if the campground is open? If it isn't, does anybody know when it will be opened?

I just called the ranger station at 530-644-2324. She said the gate will be closed because they got 6 inch of snow this week. She said Sandflat will open this weekend if the water test pass. There is an overflow camping area east of lovers leap that is closer to East Wall. We may climb at Phantom Spires if there is too much snow at Lovers - going to check it out either way.

Is the overflow camping open?

Google says Sandflet is near Kyburz (I've never been there, but I've seen acampground along 50. Supertopo says the overflow camping is on 42 Track road (first left west of Stawberry Lodge). I've seen people camp east of Lover Leap - heading east you make a right turn right after the big bend, where the guard rail ends. The road (4WD dirt) goes down to the river. Camp on the other side of the old bridge (no services) Enjoy!

Friend of mine climbed lovers last week before the rain this weekend. With the heat it should be on for this weekend. Personally I have not found a partner yet, (what kind of climber has to study) I will be there regardless. I will practice some solo shit if i have too. See ya Sat

Thanks for the info. So...has anyone climbed The Line post-rockfall? Is there loose rock? Do you think the grade changed? Any info would be helpful for a possible trip next week. Thanks! -aB

In reply to: Chris McNamara's done it recently, here's his beta: http://www.supertopo.com/rockclimbing/route.html?r=loealine Thanks, mandrake! I also found some great aerial shots of the Leap on supertopo.com taken recently by a climber flying in his friend's fighter plane :!: If you haven't seen 'em, they're at: http://www.supertopo.com/....html?topic_id=72642
