can anybody tell me how to configure a 24v drill to run on car batteries? thanx

This topic was just covered in the past few days, only the drill in question was 18V. For a 24V drill it would be much easier as 24V is just twice 12V. All you nee to do is to hook two 12V car batteries in series. hook the positive side of the drill to the positive lead on one battery, then the negative lead on that battery to the positive lead on the second battery, and finally the negative lead of the second battery to the negative side of the drill.

bigjonnyc has the drawing correct. I changed my rig from the car battery idea to (2) 12v hobby batteries. They are rechargable, won't leak any mysterious fluids, and are cheap. My bulldog went from drilling about 11 holes on the old, original battery to over 30 holes with the new. Another thing I did was use Monster cable (fatty speaker wire) to connect the rig to my drill. I used about 50' of wire so I could leave the battery at the belay, last bolt or on the ground. Makes for an easier job, less weight! If you use more than 50' you start to get weird power issues. I also used a little plastic remote control car battery connecter to connect the wires at the drill. This allows for quick battery changes. If you want to bring the battery with you, I use a fanny pack. This keeps the weight a little more balenced as you drill. Best of luck!

Hey there just to let everyone know "Hilti" recently came out with a 36v cordless hammer drill and at a decent price, they say it lasts a lot longer than the 24v.

What's it called?
Not too long ago, they introduced a new 24V drill, the TE-2A. Their current 36V drill is the TE-6A.
Haven't seen another one, but...maybe?

car batteries are not deep cycle so u drain them and recharge them but they wont ever recharge to full capacity so you will ruin them in a while

Uhhh...this isn't a new, improved drill. Expensive, too. But, probably the best. Been out for a number of years, though.

The man at Hilti assured this drill had not come out very long ago, "time is so subjective".

On the fish site there are good instructions on converting a bosch drill to run on other batteries, with pictures too.

Don't use car batteries, they are not made to be drained down. Use boat batteries, They are made to be drained down and recharged.
