Trad rock. Too many people die ice climbing from reasons that are beyond their control. Trad climbing you usually have to screw up something major and obvious to get killed. I know that this isn't always true, but if you read "Accidents in North American Mountaineering," you will see the obvious disparity between the two. Most deaths in rock climbing are from dumb mistakes that could have been prevented with a simple double check.

Ice for me, yes it is more dangerous, but that adds reward. Topping out on a waterfall or a couloir is an awesome feeling. But who's counting anyway, Trad is fun too and both can push you.

When was the last time you got the screaming barfies from a nice long summer freeclimb? Trad, though ice certainly has its pleasures (and is more photogenic :-))

Neither. They are both a ton of fun. I don't think I could pick between the two. I'm finally going to get into ice this winter after a long and desperate search for a partner that wasn't a Midwestern A-hole (pardon me, but the GREAT people on this board that are from the Midwest are far and few between. You all know what I mean!), I can finally climb ice continually! (Crowd chears; applause) YYEEEEEEAAAAAHHH!!! I love them both, but I think ice is just a tid bit more fun. Like, an immeasurable amount more fun. Like, so small you wouldn't really notice more fun. You just know it is there. Steve
