I just wanted to know some beta on climbing in Europe in the winter. Im headed there for Dec - Mar (solo) and other than the crags in Spain, I wanted to know what some other places were like. Some specific crags that I would like to know about are Mesja Pec and Osp, and whatever is in Croatia and Italy. Are these areas too cold? Is it rediculously difficult to get around without a car/find a partner? All beta is appreciated on any sport crag/bouldering area that is climbable in the winter.

one thread is enough. so ill be replying to this one instead of the other one. črni kal, mija peč and osp are all climbable during winter. if its dry offcourse. you even have a climbers camp in osp and some of the residents regularry rent rooms to climbers. most crags in croatia are also climbable. you shoud really check out paklenica, dvigrad and limski kanal. id be able to provide better beta if you told me what your goals are. edit: also, if you can give some dates, i might be able to show you around. depends on my studying workload though.

Omis was a fun place to climb in Croatia. http://www.climbingomis.com I have to admit though, many of the bolts weren't tight in the wall. What I mean is I could turn them to tighten with my fingers. They seemed to be fine to use, but check 'em out before you trust them. It was multi-pitch sport overlooking the bay and pretty fun stuff. Wish I knew where my pictures were. Waylan

I dont know if these are too far for your purposes, but you might consider Kalymnos, Greece; Geyikbayiri and Olympos, Turkey. If it does not rain, all of these places have excellent climbing weather. Olympos is much smaller compared to other two, though.

Its so hard to pick a place in winter.... We are going to Finale Ligure, Italy for Christmas. I have read that if its not raining, and there isn't a cold north wind, its really nice to climb there (40s to 50s). Last year we went to Sardinia, and it has excellent climbing all year long. Cala Gonone is a good place to station yourself for routes nearby.

I live in Milan, so let me know if you'll be in northern Italy at all. I'm happy to send you beta or even show you around. Finale is great in the winter and I've heard good things about Bismantova.

In Croatia near Split area you have many crags that are very nice winter climbing resort with 15-20C temperature (if it's sunny day).. (Marjan, Trogir, Brela) are winter climbing areas with rutes from 4c to 8b.
