I heard from a friend that works for LNT that LCC has been sold off and turned into a rock quarry, and that many routes have already been destroyed... heart wrenching. Anyone have any veritable info on this?

I think you're refering to the temple and conference center quarry in LCC. Yes it's amid some of the worlds best climbing but it has ALWAYS been privately owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints....or the Mormons...never to be sold. It's by their grace that we're allowed to climb there in the first place. And no, the only climbing that was destroyed there when they quarried for the conference center a few years back was some bouldering....and we all know that's not real climbing anyway. No need to worry.

Yeah, the whole canyon has been stripped of rock and soon it will be completely filled in with dirt... There are so many good places up there and no routes are in jeopardy. Even if you boulder there is so much stuff that won't ever get touched, even if another 10 conference centers are built. All is well. At the moment there is a good relationship between climbers and the LDS church. This is due largely to the respect the climbers have had while climbing on private property and the way they negotiated the permission. ^^ike

Leave the poor guy alone and go climb on Sunday. LCC is just another great place that we're so lucky to have so close. ^^ike

Yes..I am all of those things Jason. You are right. At least I showed up to hear you say them to me in person. My theory is right. Spray is spray, talk is cheap, and you chickened out. That's why these little internet disputes we are having mean nothing. It's all talk. Blah Blah Blah. Think of me what you will but climbing 5.12 "on good days" doesn't mean that you're still not a pu$$y...cause you kinda are...and I only climb 5.9.

JasonSLC, It sounds like you had just as much to do with all that BS non-sense as gullwing19. Why don't you both just simmer down and play nice?

I don't climb in LCC, but I don't see why this is any different from any other place that is privately owned that allows you to climb. Anyone ever been to a place on private property where the landowner lets you climb? It's by their "grace" (although I might have chosen a different word). I don't know anything about the situation in LCC, but don't bash the mormon church for letting climbers climb on their land. They own it, as much as I hate to admit it.

wonder how the mor(m)ons got the land in the first place. I'm sure they must have compensated the native utes in some fashion(massacre, disease, humiliation) for the land. It appears to me that this brand of gods representatives destroyed a true temple of god to create one that would suit the needs of those who are whipped by idolatry. WARNING! My opinion may be influenced by historical perspective. I love ringlocks.

Even without the rock, owned by the church, there is so much climbing in LCC and the other Wasatch canyons that it doesn't matter.

I thought the use of "grace" was more of an attempt at irony rather than self righteousness. If you read it from the ironic standpoint it's funny.

My opinion may be influenced by historical perspective. It seems this person justifies their bigotry with weak evidence. Tell me that the land you live on wasn't once Indian territory and that you've never enjoyed using land that wasn't taken from indigenous people. More appropriately, show me where Little Cottonwood was a ceremonial center for the Utes and how the Mormons poisoned them to get the land.

All joking aside. I grew up in SLC and visit a few times a year. It really would be very sad if "they" destroyed any more rock or closed more land. It truly is a great place to climb.

On second thought, how did the OP come to this conclusion? The original post is so out-dated it's ridiculous. New, equally ignorant/anachronistic thread titles that should also be considered as events that are happening now:
