so my boyfriend and i are planning a trip to the above mentioned places. the date of the trip is either the first week of may or the middle of june, depending on when we can both get time off. does anyone local to these areas have input on how disgustingly hot it will be there in june? all the stuff i looked up said averages of something like 102 at red rocks in june. please help so i don't have to swelter up my first wall in 102 degree weather... thanks!
:) amy

it is nasty here in Red Rock in June for those not used to the heat. locals still climb though.

the biggest tricks are to find north facing stuff, start early, and leave late.

if you want some suggestions for routesin Red Rock, let me know what you're looking to do and i'll give you a list that'll keep you busy.

I'd recommend may for Zion. Haven't climbed there much but have spent a fair amount of time in the park and June is pretty hot.

However, if you do go in June, following vegastradguy's suggestions for Red Rocks will serve you nicely in Zion. Find north-facing stuff.

Depending on the type of climbing you want to do, you can always spend the hot-ass middle part of the day doing short slot canyons in June (Pine Creek, Mystery, Keyhole, etc). They stay nice and cool and will be fine that time of year. Mid-May is too early for a lot of the canyons, but the heat won't be as much of an issue then.

I would not head to Jtree in june if you plan on staying for awhile. The only climbable times I assume will be early in the morning or late in the afternoon. I would suggest going to Yosemite Valley or Toulmn. Meadows. good luck
