I'm just daydreaming here, but where do you think the best place in the world would be to surf and climb regularly?

I'm talking waking up at 5am to catch some waves then heading out to climb in the same day without a huge drive.

It'd also be cool if it was cheap or easy to live the vagabond life there.

probably somewhere in CA. I've allways wanted to go climbing, surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding in the same day. (possible in California!)

SoCal, or Australia maybe. The problem is that it seems to ususally be surf or climb. Few surfer/climbers seem to be able to do both. The usual scenario is that the quit climbing when they start surfing.

Yeah, but as I understand it the surfing is only good during certain times of the day so that leaves the rest of the day to climb

CA is nice, but there is better. Perhaps you would enjoy Sardinia or Corsica. Much cleaner, clear water than anything around the US and rock bluffs just coming right up off the beach. Then there are areas in Australia and New Zealand that offer the same stuff. Surf near Totem Pole!

My friend, until a recent accident due to skydiving (he had a dislocated rib and jumped anyway, but the rib kept him from assuming proper landing position and he severly fractured his leg), was doing all that in Hawaii. Surfing, climbing, teaching skydiving.

i dont know about the best place in the world, but I HAVE spent a saturday in Glamis (desert) riding sand rails and quads, headed back toward san diego sunday morning through Julian (mountains), stopped and played in the snow, and then had the time to go surfing in the afternoon, but wimped out. next time i will get all three in a day! now what excuse do you have not to come visit?

SoCal

…What??? Did you think I would say anyplace different!

Doable winter weekend:

Friday: Take off from work…get to Joshua Tree by 7 p.m. Set up camp…Sit around the campfire with friends.

Saturday: Get up early and off to do the routes picked the night before. Climb all day. Pack up and drive to Big Bear (2 hours). Move into the reserved cabin of choice.

Sunday: Get up to hit the slopes for a few hours…then drive to the beach (2hours)…surf until the sun goes down (or longer!)

Perhaps this is why the population for this area is expected to explode by 25% within the next 5 years.

On second thought…southern California is a horrible place to live…high rent…nasty smog…nope best to stay away from this place…

Didn’t I read that Australia was nice this time of year…?

See, now if you can hook me up with a cheap place to live in SoCal then I'll be right on over

Maybe a place on the beach that I can share with some other climber/surfers?

I gotta stick around here and live in mom's basement for another year anyways so I can pay off all my debts

Then maybe work for a year to save money, then maybe surf and climb for a year or the rest of my life

If you're talking about surfin and seaside climbing in close proximity to each other then my choice is Baja Ca.

Mark (fiend),

Sounds like the month and a half you spent at my house here in SoCal has ruined your ability to live happily anywhere else. And rightfully so.

Come on back, you're always welcome. I'll take you body surfing again, but in Malibu next time, then off to Malibu Creek (20 Minutes) for some great Sport Routes. You know... You've been there.

Plus you can climb at J-Tree at night, again, on one of our "Thursday Outings".

Oh yea... And you've already sampled the Great Music Scene.

I can even hook you up w/ a job... What more can you want ???

Come on... Move out here... You know you want to.

Adam, you know that me coming to SoCal is a very realistic possibility in a little while, but right now I get to daydream about living on a beach in thailand
