How would you best describe tuolumne meadows as far as rock climbing goes. What are some of your opinions of the place, including climbing there in august. Thanks

Tuolumne is a great place in the summer. I went last August for four days and enjoyed the climbing. There seemed to be a good variety of climbs, but since I was only there for a few days, I only got a small taste (mostly of slabs, but a couple nice cracks). The weather was great. I woke up to frost on the truck. Well worth the 13 hour drive that began at 1:30 a.m.

Great trad at every level, both close to the road, and in the backcountry. Great ridge climbing. Lots of mosquitos by the end of July. Plan on camping at the National Forest campsites outside the park towards Mono Lake, because the campgrounds in Tuolumne are almost always full. Certain climbs are overcrowded--Cathedral Peak, for instance--but an early start and fast pace will reward with solitude.
