Short answer: Seek professional help or have a good life insurance policy that goes to a good cause.

More realistic answer:
Read the Highline Mini-Article a couple of times to get a better idea of what is going on, it sounds like your on ground zero on the learning curve that could be potentially deadly.

The fact that it is in trees is a little different than the above article encompasses (I should probably get around to updating it to include trees) but not so much that the info covered isn't relevant.

What you really need to do is hook up with someone who knows what they're doing, and I mean REALLY knows what they're doing. This sport hasn't killed anyone yet, but it would be very easy for that to happen. I'm not all that familiar with my geography, but Idyllwild is in California, right? If you can get to LA, look up uncleslackline, damianc or clayman and I'm fairly sure you'll be able to find someone around who wants to rig a highline. Heck, just post up on slackline.com asking if anyone wants to, and I'm sure you'll get the experience you're looking for.

Don't try to do it yourself though, please.

But in response to your questions, yeah it's relatively easy to pull down instead of sideways, and falling out of your harness is really not easy to do. And yeah, trees make great highline/midline anchors, just treat them well so they'll survive.

I just got a place in Idy and am moving there soon. After that there should be plenty of great highliners coming to visit us "on the hill". Be patient, it might get better than just tree highlines around there for sure.

I'll actually be in Idyllwlid camping and slacking and doing the building inspection on the house late next week. Let me know if you are down for slacking, i could probably intro you to some great highliners by summers end. The amazing Usinger Bros are gonna visit me there soon, Metolius Shawn was just here in Reno and said he would come to the hill when i got there. Coldclimb can crash there anytime if his western road trip lasts long enough. Aron is close by in LA, Seth is just down the road in Josh. There will be highline traffic on the hill soon, bet on it. :)

yeah dude, wait til the gurus come around soon, you will learn it all from the best and get more out of it than anything you can read. Coldclimb is definitely right on that.

Shoot me an email or phone number and i'll keep you posted on highliners in Idy. Probably late August into September will be the time for that.

Your post here didn't seem very helpful, Unc.

This dude lives 2 hours from you and

"Idyllwild? Mecca of highlining?" is the best advice you can give him.

hmmmm.

Hey guys, in yosemite now, ran into corb and clay in camp 4. Me and Kelsey might indeed make it by idylwild soon actually. Jeep broke in Yos, so once we get it fixed we're off to JTree and then Tahquitz. That's near Idylwild, right? Or am I wrong?

Yeah John,
taqhuitz, is basically in Idyllwild. I am actually camping in Idy Friday night and Saturday night to take care of some business with the house. I'll pm you my cell number and if you make it to Idy by Friday just call me.

Drop a few bucks to become a RC supporter and you get a few priveleges such as your own "rank" and turning off advertising banners.
