Anyone have information on where to climb in the Alps. Sport, Trad and TR. Places where you can camp cheaply, walk to the climbs and climb is a necessity. WHat to do what to do?

The Alps are huge! I think you would get more replies if you were a bit more specific as to where you want to go: France, Switzerland, Austria? And even within each country, you have so many places to go to: for example, in France, Chamonix or Les Ecrins? (among other)... Once you get a bit more specific, a lot of people on this website (among others: Heiko, Paolo75, girldrifter, me if you ask nicely  ) should be able to help.

In any case, the Alps are great, you'll have fun!

chamonix for france. hands down. if you hurry you migh even get some ice/snow in.

most of switzerland. though it can be a bit expesive.

western austria. most of it again. should be cheaper than switzerland.

N italy. places like val di mello (though im not 100% its still in the alps and not dolomites), arco etc are stellar and camping shouldnt be too epensive.

and you forgot slovenia. theres tons of climbing here. just the 'walk to the climb' part could be a bit difficult because there are almost no 'climbing' camps. apart from osp, which will (sadly) be to hot for serious climbing.

I’ll second Chamonix, hit up some classic trad routes, scoote off for some long multi pitch sports, then put 2 days aside to tick off Mont Blanc.

Other places of interest that I can recommend are

The area around Cortina in italy (which is actualy in the dolomites, which is kinda like the southern alps) has some amazing sport and multi pitch Trad (i believe its also the birthplace of Via Ferratta if you don't wanna take your whole rack but still want to get some high exposure climbing in the mountains)

If you are mainly looking to climb sports routes I’d look more at southern Spain, it’s a cheaper area (food, accom etc) with lots and lots of beautiful bolted climbs.

Uh... quite a broad question. Do you at least have preferences regarding the time of your trip (which part of the year) or type of climbing???

Here's some:

- Austria: Wetterstein, and shitloads of mountains in the west.
- Switzerland: Ponte Brolla for sport. Plus shitloads of mountains in the Central Alps.
- Italy: Brenta Group. Dolomites. Arco.
- France: Chamonix.

I suggest having a look at the routes-db here. There's just too much to do, we're talking many thousands of routes here, hundreds of areas. A lot depends on which time of year you're travelling etc etc.

Best,
H.

Sport, Trad and TR.

TR as in toprope?
you want to visit the alps for toproping??
i dont want to offend, and i know that everyone has to start at a low level, but if you are choosing your destinations by their topropeability, i would recommend to practice a bit at home, and get someone that is experienced, if you are heading for the alps. now where the name alpine climbing comes from? from a quick look at my globe, i would say the alps are roughly the size of the state of arizona.
but if you really want to visit "the alps" i would try to gather some information, and post a more specific request.
from what i "know" now, i would skip the chamonix suggestions.

Easy qwert, he didn't say TR and bouldering. ;)

In a different thread there was mention from someone having spent a week in Chamonix climbing loads of easy stuff below 6a, so why not?
