I swear someone had posted the phone number for the forest service ... I called the (530) 265-4531 out of Nevada City. They connected me to the Truckee district.
No one was there that had a more recent report than LAST Friday (6/2) The 2nd gate was still closed, but the parking lot was accessible via mtn bike.
Does anyone have more recent news?

I just got back from Big Chief and the road is open. The climbing was great!
