I was looking at Joes Valley - is it easy to get to from SLC without a car?? any recomendations for bouldering in general in the country - how about places like goblin valley or monument valley? is there any quality bouldering there?

Bouldering in Utah in August = Hot. It'll be into the 100's, which makes climbing a tad more difficult.

Joes and Moab will both be really, really hot, being in the desert and all. The river is there, so during the day you can go float the river, etc. Also you can tromp up into the La Sals and there's some climbing there that should be at least more tolerable temps.

Little cottonwood will be much more tolerable, although still pretty damn hot during the day, and you'll still have to chase shade and such.

You could go to the Uintas, but the bouldering there is largly undeveloped, hard to find, and not well documented. It's out there, though, and will be by far the coolest temps you'll get. You can also hike, backpack, fish, etc.

All in all, you're probably not going to die, and if you insist on going to the desert, I'd probably go to Moab anyway, so that you have other stuff to do during the day when it's really really hot.

Steve

P.S. Send a PM when you're in town!

Goblin VAlley doesn't have any bouldering as far as I'm aware. The mud formations resist climbing pretty well, as some pictures of me climbing there can attest.

I have no other useful information.

Monsoon season normally hits about mid August, and temps start going down with the showers. Northern Utah can be quite tolerable under those conditions, and LCC has bouldering at many elevations.
