I'm not much of a class-goer but I'd like to get into trad and I figure gear placement is probably something you should be actively taught.
Can anyone recommend a good beginner's trad class in the San Francisco bay area?
I found one through Marin Outdoors (via Craigslist), but I have no idea if they are any good.

I can't really vouch for the class but I do recognize the name of one of the guys teaching it. I've climbed with him at Class5 and he has helped me plan for a couple of big walls. He definitely knows his s@%&t.

Is there any cost for the class other than the $25 reservation fee? Heck I would love to go if it's free...

Heh heh... can you believe it IS free? There is the $25 registration, but then if you go both days they give you a $25 gift certificate.
I've already registered and they have 5 of the 10 spots available. The phone number is in the page at the link above.
If anyone else wants to go, we can carpool.

The indoor portion of this class is tomorrow. I'll be driving from the south bay if anyone needs a ride. Email me.

Have you checked out the classes offered at Berkeley Ironworks? Dave Altman teaches a bunch of indoor and outdoor classes and he's a trad master. You would be hard pressed to find a teacher as experienced as he is.

Just a quick follow-up...

The class was awesome! Saturday we went to Cosumnes River Gorge outside of Placerville and spent about 11-12 hours at the crag. Despite there being 12 or so people, I felt I got a lot of personal attention. Loren and Jim did a superb job.
