Just a heads up for anyone trying to head to Tahquitz this weekend (or maybe next); I'd recommend against it. Some dickhead set a fire in Cabazon (Palm Springs side) this morning, that has already blown up to over 11,000 acres. Idyllwild is seriously threatened because of the beetle infestation there that killed so many trees. The fire killed 4 firefighters this morning when their truck was overrun by a firestorm; one's in critical condition at the Arrowhead Burn Center. Even if it's not closed, if Temecula's any indication (where I live), you wouldn't want to try breathing up there. It's been smokey in North San Diego County all day and that's 75-100 miles away. This is a bad one, especially since we haven't had any rain in a while and the winds are blowing. There's $100K reward for the arsonist. I hope to God they catch the fcucker. Climb safe, Smitty

Thanks for the FYI Smitty. I was hoping to get up there this weekend, but I guess Jtree is the better option afterall. Man, if the fire reaches Idyllwild, that whole place will go up like a match. I sincerely hope that the arsonist is caught and an example is made out of them.

This sucks. My mom is one of the people trapped up there at Silent Valley. There's only one exit road out of the area.

Are there any closures of interstates that would keep one from driving 15 - 215 - 60 - 10 - 62 (San Diego to Joshua Tree)?

In reply to: Are there any closures of interstates that would keep one from driving 15 - 215 - 60 - 10 - 62 (San Diego to Joshua Tree)? Not that I know of. They're trying to hold the fire at Hwy 79, just before Lake Perris. 79 between Beaumont & Hemet is closed. But I've always found 79S-->371 faster anyway. Smitty
