playouts1de wrote: K Guys. Got a reply from Scott B at BD. It was as follows: Email #1: Thank you for writing in. Our ATC is tested according to the forces it would encounter when used for its' intended use. The directionality is very important just like testing carabiners along their major axis along the spine. I would highly discourage using the ATC upside down or in any other configuration other than as it is shown in the "Instructions for Use" pamphlet that comes with the ATC. Its been an interesting discussion to say the least. Interesting as a train wreck. It should have been obvious all along that the ATC shouldn't be used as a nut because its strength in that configuration is unknown. Gumbies. Jay

Im not sure I am remembering this right, or for that matter, why one would want to use an ATC as a piece of pro, but is it possable? Anyone else hear those stats before? Alex - where in this post does Play quote a BD rep advising that an ATC could be used as pro? Should the rep be fired for saying "the retaining cable on the back of an ATC could hold an unreal amount of force, measurable in the kn range"? I'm being an ass? You're boring me. Yeah I am amazed that this thread is still going too. I am not suprised that the BD rep mentioned how tough the keeper wire is (and I doubt he mentioned anything about using it as pro or how difficult it is to pull it out of the ATC). I read this on gearexpress.com's description of the Trango B52 (my fav device): "The carrying cable is 1x19 stainless steel standing rigging cable (the same stuff used in a lot of U-frame cams) so it won’t get sucked into your rope". So yeah, the cable is as strong as many cams, and the reason is not so it can be used as pro, but so it will not be flexy enough to get sucked into your rope. If I had to I would SLING my B52 and use it as pro, or hack my hand off to escape a crazy bear trap or dress in drag to elude a gay stalker. Sometimes it's whatever it takes...

At the risk of opening up a new can or worms, the ATC guide has slots on the side and the metal attatchemnt point...it almost looks like it could nestle right into the right placement, sling the hole normally used to anchor the autoblock and.... who wants to give it a pulltest?

I carry a set of ATC-Guides for exactly this reason. Bomber, although stacking them requires a bit of skill and experience.
