o.k., i am only checking out the area with potential to move here. I am interested in knowing the availability/possibility for year round outdoor rock climbing around Portland. how many months a year is realistic?, how many places to do multipitch trad within an hours drive of portland. what else is there besides smith rock? are there any gyms near hood river? any input/info/advice is great. thanks in advance. jhan

Beacon - multipitch gear lines. About 1 hour from NE portland.
Rat Cave - All year round sport. Highest concentration of hard routes in portland.
Brouton's Bluff - Lots of 3 pitch gear, someofwhich is pretty good. Also has some pretty good hard sport.
Carver - Decent routes and bouldering
