Had to use mine to ward off an attacking Majid Sabet once. Damn thing was threatening to rearrange my entire belay while the climber was on the line! Luckily, its broken english was no match for my pointy sharpness.

The only thing that would make me laugh more than those two comments would be a diagramatic illustration of either scenario by Majid... green and red arrows and all... along with warnings that joking about Pterodactlys is irresponsible and will cause us all to die a painfull death and/or be banned by the MODS at his request.

In all seriousness- there are ways to unlock a stuck biner.

Often times weighting it or bouncing on (while trying to turn it) it will elongate the biner and release the sleeve. ...Or vice versa depending on whether or not the biner was weighted when you initially tightened it.

I was also taught how to make a "biner wrench" in a self-rescue class out of a piece of accessory cord by tying a prussic knot around the locking sleeve and (if you have it facing the correct direction) you can use it to force the sleeve to turn.

Maybe I'll post a pic later for ya so you don't have to sacrifice any more gear.

Here's the knife I just ordered to keep on my harness. The Trango Piranha; physically can not open when clipped on a biner.

The edge of the blade is still exposed.

And make sure it can't accidentally open. I bought a CRKT KISS at REI, slung it to a biner with some other gear (back-up prussik, etc.). Some pitches up, I noticed to my horror that the blade had opened. Unsure And it requires some force to open. Now I duct tape it shut, and the next knife I buy will have some sort of safety mechanism to help me avoid self-circumcision, or worse.

I am sure that wire gates will work in a pinch but the standard biner works so well that i never tried a wire gate. i was afraid of tweaking the wire. This is not your average pop off method like you do with a lighter but an efortless aplication just like a bottle opener.

I like effortless.

............And this whole time I thought I was going to get to argue with someone. Now I'm really upset.

I once saw a guy with a Knike blade piton made into a knife by sharpening one edge and keeping it in a sheath on a biner with other bail gear. Guy said he wanted to keep everthing multi purpose.

Ha! Can't drink yet, got to go clip some bolts this afternoon. But you can be sure J. Garcia and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale will be enjoyed tonight.

Keep up the arguments and abuse.

Had this guy done a stint in prison?

As for opening heady brews, unless you guys can bite the cap off, you had better stop calling others pussies. Molars: the church-key we were born with.

I used to do that all the time. Everyone always thinks they have some new cool way of opening a beer bottle. Well, that baby was always my trump card. I did it with pride, all the time... well, that is until my tooth-beer-bottle-opening-ways caught up w/ me.

I use a wiregate now.
