you know, you said that the ladies room could mostly self moderate, and it mostly does, but apparently, even when stuff is labeled as inappropriate in-thread, its WAY to much trouble to split off the bullshit, since its so much more fun for everyone if a post about me being naked in a locker room ends up in campground. can we have some fucking moderation in the ladies room that doesnt invlove dumping the entire thread into campground? that is not a good solution.

macherry wrote: i agree clausti. i tried to keep the change room thread on track, but obviously it didn't work. i'll bring it up in the mods forum. from the other thread but this seems like a better place to discuss.. exactly what did you do? In the thread i see nothing. delete offending posts.. nope.. i to miss the "deleted by" and "Moved by" accountability notes that seem to have gone missing despite Phil saying they would be back.

hello Clausti, I moved the thread because its material became uninteresting and childish. Once again it could have been split, but users should understand that we can't PM everyone everyday or split this and split that. Time is not infinite and we work besides surfing rccom. About the "moved by" feature, this is an old trick no longer available. I sometimes say when I move someting, I sometimes don't.

Thomas, I'm going to disagree. If you don't have time to split it off, post in M&E asking somebody with more time to do it for you. And if you (we) are going to move something, maybe it would be prudent to post a reply saying who moved it and why until the auto post is returned.

It became uninteresting and childish because the mods LET it become that way by allowing people to keep posting inappropriately in the thread. It WAS a valid thread for quite a while.. now it is thrown into community to get buried by the same 2-4 posters that Postcount++ threads all over the site. Maybe you should let the female mods decide what they think should get moved.. since it's like.. their forum?

i belive that in spam, or topics in the wrong forum ie., posting gear questions in beginnners, it's okay to move the thread without warning or explanation, but in the locker room thread case, i do believe some courtesy could have been extended to the OP. It's up to us mods to keep threads on track and i do believe the choss could have been split from the thread

Being that this thread is about moderation and more to the point moderation within the LF would the ladies present like for more of the male mods to have a presence within this forum. I in particular have been at pains to avoid this particular forum although I sometimes give in to temptation. I don't think I have ever moderated this forum but then my brain cells are failing fast, forgive me if this is a misstatement. So when the ladies ask for more moderation what exactly does that statement entail. I do need guidance so that in future when moderation does occur we can point back to this thread. Would you like all mods to become more active in the forum or just the lady mods to take a more active aproach. Any other guidance would be most welcome.

Phil.. i think they are looking for PROPER moderation.. from anyone that feels like they can do it. Mod's can't just throw things into community and think that everything will be better. sure this works for spam, non climbing topics and trolls but a bit more thought should be put into moderating the ladies room.. which is labeled to be moderated higher. what's the fucking point of having stricter rules if once they are broken the thread gets thrown into a room with no rules? The girls and some guys who post in there with questions and comments to discuss do so expecting a certain amount of seriousness and maturity.. If the mods can't keep that environment then they should eliminate the forum because it loses it's purpose.
In reply to: A place for women to share their experiences, ask female-related questions and get empowered in a safe environment. All are free to post, but keep maturity in mind. Highly moderated. I think you should start there.

you know, phil, i think i am defecting to the "abolish the ladies room" camp. its quite obvious that there will never be consistent moderation, and i think you should remove the deceptive safety screen. put a moratorium on new threads in the ladies room. allow the extant ones to operate normally, but give the OP of the active ones (e. g. ladies multipitch shoe thread) the option to move them to the appropriate forum. make it harder to find the ladies room. put it in the archives, accessible, in the retired forums sublisting. you already even have a space for it. quite soon, the threads that ppl have in their mytopics page will be the only ones that get any action, and eventually, it will just die of disuse. that is my suggestion.

We have a motion on the floor for the complete abolition of the ladies room. I would definitely like to hear more than one opinion in this regard. Would anyone like to speak in opposition to the motion. Do feel free to speak your mind.

Do feel free to speak your mind. likely, you'd be best served by directing that question at the ladies room directly, in the "fucking moderation" thread, where several things have been suggested.

Yeah, I haven't made my way into the ladies room forum yet this morning. Still catching up.

Would anyone like to speak in opposition to the motion. Do feel free to speak your mind. Here’s another vote for “Create a Ladies’ Room Club.” There have been some really interesting, insightful, and informative discussions that have come out of the Ladies’ Room and I think it would be a shame to lose that. The context for discussion in the environment would be completely lost. Creating a “serious forum" is certainly one solution, but it shifts the targeted posting demographics – the question, then, is “Do you want that shift?” I, for one, appreciate the predominantly female perspective on some of the topics posted. I think this is a similar discussion to a previous one about where to “put” the Ladies’ Room forum when the site changed. Immediately after the change, the forum was truly awful, but with a little logistical help (physically moving the forum to the bottom of the page) and a little self-moderation (pointedly “encouraging” people to stay on-topic) it seems to have straightened itself out more or less. Hopefully, that could happen again.

lvpyne wrote: a Ladies’ Room Club. interesting solution, and one which just might work, IMO. Perhaps if one must ask to be included in the discussion, they will be more aware of the necessity of posting on-topic with salient information. If nothing else, they are aware that they could be as easily dis-invited from participating in the topic of the moment and booted from the "Club". Note that I'm not saying an XX chromosome pair is requisite for being a member, rather that an ability to moderate ones self in a manner suitable to the topic at hand should be the primary consideration. It should not be too difficult for the "Club Membership Committee" to determine whether one's participation should be allowed or excluded, for if nothing else one's style of posting will reveal much about their suitability for membership. I know BITD the forum was only viewable for logged-in site members. With the new ownership came some changes... perhaps some more are in order.

stymingersfink wrote: lvpyne wrote: a Ladies’ Room Club. interesting solution, and one which just might work, IMO. Follow up question: Should admission into this Ladie's Room Club require that the user be a member of the general site for a period of time....say, 90 days?... so that the quality of the users interaction can be judged? I'm thinking that this might help weed out trolls, people who join only to flirt or make inflammatory comments, etc. By having a history, so to speak, the members of the LRC can say "Yeah, this person seems nice enough, and has had positive interactions in other threads... they're welcome to join" or "This person has done nothing but stir up shit and annoy everyone.... they're not welcome in the club." That sort of thing. Make sense? What say ye?

not very accommodating for a new user who may have joined with the express intention of getting the ladies' opinion on a potentially sensitive and timely issue... perhaps an initial probationary period (no pun intended ) of some sort might work as well for those who are new to the site. Users with verifiable post-history would be able to by-pass the probation period. Of course, if the integrated killfile from the days of yore were still up and kicking, this whole thing might not even be an issue
