To get to Witches; Take 33 south to Stimson/Co Rd 25 exit. Go Left at bottom of ramp, and make first left after that. Drive under freeway and park in small pulloff to the right (just past the north exit ramp). Head for the hill on the right. There is a path that begins at the "drainage ditch"and heads up a gravely trail. Steep walk up - stay on trail until you reach the top. Catch your breath, rest your legs and have fun.

Is this area a good place to go in Athens for someone just starting out? How big are the boulders there?

Lots of fun stuff for all of us who don't climb double digits. Variety of high and low balls. I frequently take my 11 year old son climbing there and he is always able to find fun v0-v1 problems to climb. The grades here are a little stiff (kinda like Coopers,WVA). There is a fun dihedral to the left of Balance Slab, the right side of Tombstone Arete, and Witches Backside are fun for beginners.

FYI: Witch's Rock is, fortunately, public property. It is owned by ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) as part of the highway right-of-way.
