"shoe cleaning pad"? come the fuck on. Just make sure there isn't goop/sap/poo/what-have-you on the rubber and that the uppers are also generally crap-free and you'll be fine. If I'm trying a harder route and feel I need a little extra stick, I spit on the toe, rub the crud off with the heel of my hand, scrub with a bandana, and I feel a measurable difference. "shoe cleaning pad" jesus..., although I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering the myriad other shit Mad Rock produces...

In reply to: I use a damp rag, and Mad Rocks sells a shoe cleaning pad. I second the damp rag. It seems to work well

didnt think of this until i read this thread but those rubbing alcohol wipes (the little square ones) would put a fresh coat of rubber on.

I throw my shoes in the washing machine...but my shoes are synthetic not leather. They come out like new. (don't dry them in the dryer, just put them on the floor in front of a fan.)

I think those are for keeping your shoes from getting dirt/dust/mud/poo/whatever in the first place...

To clean the rubber of your shoe before a climb, wipe it on your calf. Doesn't matter if you have pants or shorts on. To clean the whole thing, I haven't been brave enough to throw mine in the washing machine. I put them in the shower and stomp on them like I"m crushing grapes. Good fun.

First step: With a dry brush, remove dust, chalk etc. from the upper. Second step: With warm (not hot!) water, clean the rubber sole. Take care not to soak the upper. Use a hard, synthetic brush and brush firmly over the sole. Remove the solved particles under the runnig water. Reply this procedure some times. Finally, you can consider to grind an older sole with a very hard steel or brass brush. Brush firmly and remove the solved fine rubber dust under runnign water. For sport climbs in the nature, use a small carpet. Best is synthetic floor (carpet floor) with long floor, used for bathrooms. Such carpet can be given in the washing mashine frequently.

take a wire brush, and give the rubber a quick scrub with it. this'll expose a new, sticky layer of rubber.
