29 years with the wife, and no kids. If we want a kid, our friends will gladly loan us one.

My wife and I are DINKs. We will be hitting the one year mark in 4 days. The problem is that the Dual incomes are stipends. So we are approaching the income level of SINKs. I can't wait until I graduate.

I am in a way, my children are 39, 37, 34. My grandchildren are 17 and 12. None of them live with me. This will change in a month when I go on a fixed income. Retiring. No more working. Lots of climbing.

It was awful kind of you to protect your loved one from a 9 LB parasite. I'll take an ounce of prevention anyday, in this particular case the "cure" is way to traumatizing. No need to go there.

Not to mention their is a high chance (75%) that any little ones we have will be diabetic just like daddy. Besides, we both like to sleep through the night and wake up around 9am on the weekends.

And some of us made a decision to not add to the population explosion. But we still don't escape the financial burden of helping pay for other peoples kids.

True. I haven't written off kids entirely. I'm only 31 so a crumbmuncher or two is an option. My lack of flexible work schedule presently is a huge factor and will have to change. I won't have kids and let someone else raise them 40-50 hours a week. But again, those are just my beliefs..no judgment on anyone else. And Dan, my parents were living in a trailer too. ;)

Call me selfish, but I enjoy my lifestyle and the freedom to make decisions without having to consider "What to do with the kids?" as part of the equation. I know lots of folks my age with kids. Many (most?) wouldn't trade it for anything, and I admire them for that. Perhaps I just don't have it in me to be that unselfish. Character flaw, I suppose.

I agree with you on the freedom part. I haven't gotten a dog of my own (let alone kids) for that reason. It's not a character flaw if you're aware of it (I think). It's simply part of your personality - nothing wrong with that. If only more people had that self-awareness!

DINK here but with four dogs. Added to that the military lifestyle is not all that great for raising children. I don't want to watch them grow up in pictures and videos. Being a military brat myself, I would want my children to at least have a steady place to live all their life.
