It means to send the climb first try with knowledge of the beta from either seeing someone climb it or someone explaining the moves, for any other climbing terms see the below link Climbing Dictionary- http://www.rockclimbing.com/..._Dictionary_528.html

nepaclimber wrote: with knowledge of the beta from either seeing someone climb it or someone explaining the moves Uh, nope. "Flash" means without prior knowledge of any kind. Check "betaflash" in the dictionary for confirmation.

I think you're wrong too. Flash - n. completion of a climb first try with no falls. 2. (vb.) to perform a flash. Onsight - n/vb. a clean ascent with no falls, first try, with no prior knowledge of the route. There you go.

mr.rock wrote: Flash - n. completion of a climb first try with no falls. 2. (vb.) to perform a flash. Yes. A flash can happen with or without beta. Hence "onsight flash" and "beta flash". The two regularly get shortened to "onsighting" and "flashing".

I just climb... I either do it without falling or I fall.... Mind you most of the routes I've done in the past 4 Months had never been climbed till I got there... Hows that for not knowing anything about the climb. hehehe, but yeah, if you're worierd about that kind of stuff.... what Chossy said.

Like, you cant rapel or anything to inspect the holds, you only get to climb from the ground to the top figuring out holds on the way, even if its not your first time on the particular route. i think i first heard this in a DWS video i saw, because obviously they dont have a rope to hang on and inspect the holds on that note tho, when i hear someone say onsight, i think, clean first try, no beta when i hear flash, i think, clean first try, someone gave them the beta and also, prolly not worth arguing about. if you have to argue to convince someone it was a onsight or flash, then no one really cares =P

verb - to open one's clothes and expose the genitals suddenly, and usually briefly, in public. As in, "I tried to flash that pee-yotch, but got my ass kicked."

Huh - okay. I learned it differently, but can't see any real value in arguing the definition for more than one round of posts. In any case - if you're having fun, you're doing it right.

So then an "onsight flash" must be exposing one's genitals without prior knowledge of the technique or in an unfamiliar environment, whereas a "beta flash" would imply a first-time genital-exposer but with either the info on how to do it, or having already seen someone perform the show.

'Flash' also refers to the bright white light you see when you get kicked in the ball$ while attempting to 'flash' someone.
