The Leap is so sweet!! The camping scene seems kinda limited for a gathering. ???? What's the weather like up there right now? The Leap seems kinda chilly when I think about it. Maybe I'm just going soft.

I would be up for climbing again at the leap before the weather turns. I was up a couple weeks ago and it was great.

Count me in. I can pretty much head up there any weekend, for at least one day and I have a full rack and rope. PM me if you like. [ This Message was edited by: unirock on 2002-10-15 11:19 ]

I would love to get in a bit more climbing before the snows. I can probably take at least one peroson from the Bay Area depending on dates.

If anyone needs a ride from the bay area, I can get you there in my "climbing command centre" I will be willing go any weekend... I would love to have a partner at the Leap, as there are still some classics left that I would love to tick. Camping is great at the leap!! There are 22-26 (mostly) legal spots to camp. NO RESERVATIONS!! First come first serve. Pack out what you pack in. There is potable water, and restrooms, also a bar/restaurant within 5-10 minutes walk. Make sure to tip the bartender well. (You're welcome Petch;)) It will be chilly in the mornings until about 12:30-1pm when the sun crest over main wall. But not much more cold than Josh morining in the winter, or even valley mornings right now.. I am normally not one to latch on to these trips where a gaggle of climbers rampage an area, but we will have to see right? I love the leap, and that can't change. Top of my list to hitup are Corrugation Corner (5.7/8), Hospital Corner (5.10), and the Line (5.9). But any classic is worth it. I have found that falling in love with routes at the leap is easy, and if you're like me, you have to stretch to climb ones that aren't your favorites. (They were all a favorite at some time) Sugarloaf and Phantom Spires (even the leap) all offer year round climbing, The Spires being the most sunny. All of these areas will be cold in winter! All of these arease require chains in winter! Climb on! Adam PM Me if you like more beta..

I can't go on the 25-27th, committed to Bishop...kinda doubt my wife would look kindly on me going two weekends in a row. I would love to go next year though..keep me informed. I have friends in Myers so I am all set. Have fun. BTW, I want to do that 400+ foot route(5.7) that Dan Osman free-soloed in 4 minutes in the video 'Masters of Stone'. I would be thrilled to do it in 4 hours.

Count me in either weekend as long as I can carpool with someone from the bay area.

I would be in if you want to make it the first weekend in Nov (2-3). Probaly have too much work the next two weekends to make it before that . I was there this past weekend, beautiful climbing weather for the hearty. I assume in a few more weeks it should still be fine as long as the snow holds off. If not sugarloaf or the spires are great alternatives. I don't think camping spots will be too much of a concern, it is thinning out pretty quick.

JM, the route you are referring to is Bears Reach - A Leap classic and definitely worth doing. Doing it within 3 hours is pretty standard for 'average' climbers. Tessa, I like the idea - I will watch which weekend gets the final vote and may try and make it. The spring may work better for me this late in the season. Time to start climbing "low altitude" for us old farts - the cold just really plays with the arthritis something awful. I have some local crags that are climbable most of the winter as long as it is not wet. Email me if you are interested.

If someone would be nice enough to buy me a plane ticket I'll gladly join I would encourage anyone that can to go check it out, especially if you have never been to the Leap before, it's a *fantastic* place to climb.

I'd love to head up there. Climbed at the Leap a few years ago, it is a great place. Is there anyone out there from the VEntura/Santa Barbara area who would like to go?

I wouldn't worry too much about the weather. Unless it is really dumping that day we can still climb at the spires, sugarloaf or pie shop. They are pretty good winter areas. And if it is really dumping wouldn't it be a shame to get out for an early season ski? Hey daiseyfay how many people can you fit in your cardboard box? Can we move the party there if it is too cold? See you all there.

Will take a look at my schedule and see if I can work it in. Would probably be able to go up Friday and Saturday, then leave early Sunday. If I can come potluck sounds good and I think I've got some homebrew on tap that I could bring up.

Anyone know the details about camping there? I assume it's first-come-first serve and that anyway we won't have problems getting sites. I plan to drive up Thurs or Friday & stay until Sunday. Anybody need a ride from the bay area? (warning: 50 is a fine piece of road and I like to take it in a spirited manner) When are people planning to be there? I'll leave a note on the bulletin board in the parking lot indicating which site I'm in. Eric

The Leap is cold but not snowing yet. It really warms up about 1PM when the sun comes over the rock. I will be there Sat morning (work late on Fri). Sites are 1st come 1st serve but there are plenty of overflow sites available. Hope to see you all there. Kristin
