try it like this:

it's a little more obvious, but still feeds effortlessly though a belay device (it's several different lengths of Glide dental floss, knotted in the middle, then pulled through the sheath). It's got about half a season on it so far, still working good.

edit to add:

plus it took maybe all of five minutes to accomplish start to finish

I use floss to mark the center of my rope. It's lasted a really long time actually, a year and going strong. Though I don't get out as often as I'd like. Downside is that it looks like a core-shot to your rope after a few days.. which can be scary for other people at the crag.

Very clever. Since it's woven in the sheath, it shoudn't affect that much the strenght of the rope. I tried something similar, but with a nylon thread.

except that it doesn't really stick out all that much more than the rest of the rope. Perhaps this is partially due to the fact that the pattern already features quite a few white threads.

Not only that, but regular flossing reduces tartar build-up.

I just get NSFW to piss on the middle. I know exactly where the middle is when I'm getting ready to rap, and it keeps bears out of my camp.

I would go with a $10.00 soldering iron from Radioshack you can melt any cool little design you want into your rope! Wink Come on people haven't we talked about this one to many times?! Suck it up and live on the risky side of life and mark it with a freakin pen or do the dental floss thing and make it look cool.
