I am planning to climb at Skaha in March, but have learned via the Skaha.org website, that the regular access trail and parking lot (Braesyde Farms) will be closed. I know that “The Land Conservancy” purchased some land…does this land give climbers a new access point to the crags? If so, will it be ready for use in March?...and if it will be ready, how do you get there? Thanks for the info

i have also been wondering the same thing. i'd like to go there in spring, but it's seeming very touchy still. i've heard that there are other ways in, but they are very long and unpleasant. but in reality, i know nothing about these supposed "other ways".

I have heard, or read somewhere at some point of a long access from the north. I am heading out march 20-27th regardless and hoping it will just work. Else I suppose I will have a good time in the okanogan, either way if anyone knows about this "north access" I am keen on info too. I was also just thinking of talking to some of the other local vinyard owners and asking to short cut accross their land to get in. This would mean a long morning walk from town though.. Opinions?

The land has been purchased, but has yet to be developed. There are a couple of other access points, but they do result in long approach times. >Cam

Consider that the Climbing in the Okanagan doesn't start and end with Skaha. There are many areas and about 600+ routes at other crags throughout the Okanagan. All of them as good, if not better then Skaha. Check out The Kelowna Crags, The Boulder Fields, Cougar Canyon, or Ellison Park. All of these areas should keep you busy for about the next 10 years, of for as long as the time of your visit.

Access to Skaha Bluffs remains a hot topic for this season. As you all know, the purchase of Sublot (SL) 18 was a success; however; that was only the first phase of the access issue. The following remains to be resolved: Legal access across a right of way to SL 18 - TLC is negotiating with the land owner and we are anxioulsy awaiting an outcome; Legal access may not be in place for the Easter long weekend; The road to SL 18 will be upgraded (under construction) this year with a parking lot developed simultaneoulsy - slated for completion in October or November; Should legal access be granted, everyone can expect to have to walk from, most likely, the end of Smythe road. The trail is likely to be flagged Access through the North end remains across private property; and Braesyde farms, the traditional access, remains closed. It is probably best for all to consider other climbing venues for the Easter weekend

According to Skaha.org the existing access will now be open for the 2008 season. Seems like they came to an agreement with the landowner. Sweet!!!
