Okay then the person I talked to at the Boston REI was retarded. I live like 10 minutes from there, so much more convenient. Thanks!

Wednesday and Thursday are supposed to be really nice. Is anyone up for climbing somewhere local (like QQ) around 3-4pm? (I'm 23yo and climb around 5.10)

Good job on Tipsy Trees! It was one of my first leads at the Gunks and I found it to be a lot of fun.

Thanks Losbill! I had a hard time trusting those bolts on the overlap but plugged the hell out of the rest of the route to get the practice. Definitely had a blast though...I can't wait to get more time out in the gunks. Ahhhh....good start for a comeback season!

Allison and I were Gunking it too - just on Sunday. Weather was not terribly pleasant, but it was good to start brushing the cobwebs out of the lead head. We just did two climbs - Andrew (Al did P1, I did P2+3). It was a waterfall, but we found some dry-ish rock for the most part. I had to move out onto a 5.8 variation called Moby Dick to avoid swimming in muck on P2. So I guess that means I did Andrew's Dick. Whatever, I enjoyed it, and Al didn't object. After that, we did P1 of Limelight. I'd done that one before, so it wasn't a huge deal. Boy, trad leading at the Gunks is scary. Glad we started on 5.4 and 5.6. My lead head is clearly going to take a little while to get back up to snuff. GO

Gabe - I'm really surprised we missed you, as we looked at Andrew and did Limelight in the end. Oh well, maybe next time...

rwerner, I will most likely be there Thursday afternoon. Looking at the weather, even if I am not htere, there should be someone you can rope up with. On nice days, it's like outdoor gym climbing, top ropes are set up EVERYWHERE.

GO Were you climbing on the lichen-y face to the right of Alex in this picture? Did you end up doing the the MD variation of the last pitch too? I would be surprised if the last pitch of Andrew (short rightward traverse) was wet. She was also trying to avoid the wetness...I believe she ended up pulling the roof right over her head. Wow this was almost a year ago!

Wow this was almost a year ago! Yup, that's just about where I was. It was a little wetter than in this pic, though, so I think I was maybe a half a body length further right - just on the edge of the largest amount of lichen. And nope, didn't do the left-side variation at the top - as you guessed, the traverse was fine. GO

Did exactly the same thing to avoid wetness in the regular route groove in October a few years ago. Turned out to be quite the sporty outing with crumbly, wet, lichen-covered, and somewhat overhanging rock. Caitlin was following. Freaked her out a bit. Got started late and finished late. Had quite the mini-epic rapping down in the dark. Of course the headlamps were safely stowed in the trunk of the car. Was climbing with my single so it complicated the descent significantly.

Hello everyone, after a rather long, cold winter up here in Maine, and a rather long hiatus from the site, I've emerged from hibernation. My in laws are renting a place near by for the next month so I have carte blanche for near term rock climbing fun. Longer term summer plans are for Katahdin, Cannon, Acadia, Gunks, Conway and plenty of time in Camden for the season. I'll probably climb Cottonwood while I'm out at summer OR, too. Give me a shout if anyone's interested. Matt
