Last year I created an ice farm by hanging some old fencing off a granite overhang and twisting it into a tube. It froze into a killer ice pencil about five feet thick! (there is a photo of it in this years Black Diamond catalog with my friend getting a chunk of ice in the head) Does anyone else have experience farming ice? What have you done for top ancors? Chains? Bolts? This year I am planning to expand with several lengths of chain hung in the hope of making a flat steep curtain. I'll post some photos when we are in business!! Let it Freeze, Let it Freeze, Let it Freeze!!!

Using chicken mesh fencing, you ought to be able to create the ice curtain as well - I'd imagine this might work better than using lengths of chain.. YMMV. - d.

I've heard of guys running a hose up and coated the trunk of a big cottonwood tree on one side with 5-6" of ice. Not consistently cold enough here in Boulder to make this worth the effort. BTW: Love the pic and caption in the catalogue! [ This Message was edited by: bradhill on 2002-10-29 12:17 ]
