I'd like to do the Trapp Dyke with my girlfriend this weekend, but I know the blackfly season is about to get started. Anyone know if it's too late? Girlfriend+blackflies won't be fun.

There will be very, very few (if any) black flies at that elevation. They're just starting to pop up in the last few days down low. However as mentioned above, the Dyke will likely be running with water, and the slabs will probably be wet as well, which could make things more "exciting" than usual.

Thanks for the direction Crimpstrength... FYI - following is a thread that indicates the non-biting black flies are out. They are usually around for 2 weeks before the biting variety. http://www.adkforum.com/showthread.php?t=8738

I am so excited I don't have to deal with black flies this summer. One summer in the wilderness in Maine is enough. I have to deal with Mormons instead!

I doubt it would be that bad. Do be careful of the falling ice if it freezes over night.

Eagle slide on Giant is great too... Give the girl some nice 100% DEET, and have at it. Just wash up before "getting busy"

I work outside everyday in the southern Dacks and the black flies are biting but not real bad, YET! I'll give them another two weeks before they get crazy. Once they start hammering I'll be sporting my Woods Don't Bug Me Shirt. Dave
