I've seen quite a few post topics on here about women being pissed that men are taking the opportunity to try to meet someone with a common interest. Ladies, have some heart, huh? There are those of us (like me) who spend lots of time with guys but doesn't see that side of things. I personally would DIG somebody coming up to me at a wall or gym. I would love to date someone who shares my interests. It's always nice to have a steady partner, too.

Just MHO, but I have never said that I have been pissed that guys want to meet someone with a common interest. I get pissed when guys treat me like a piece of meat. I get pissed when they consistently talk to my breasts instead of my face. I get pissed when they don't talk to me like I'm a person, or when they talk to me like I'm stupid before I've even opened my mouth. That said, I've never met a climber that's acted that way toward me, male or female. Mostly we talk about climbing (or whatever the subject veers to after that), climb, and drink beer. I'm sure there are some climbin' guys out there who are absolute pigs. Fortunately for me, I haven't met them. I'm not going to try to speak for every woman on this site, as we're all unique. But as for me, what I don't like is that North American society has got us so het up about sex and sexual harrassment that it's hard to give a compliment any more without someone taking it as a come-on. Sorry for the rant. Haven't had much coffee yet this morning. Kate

I don't think it's too big a deal -- I think climbers in general are more friendly than most. And since it's not like a bar scene, where pickups are the norm, you can pretty much decide where the convo goes. If you're not interested, stick to talking about climbing -- they won't have a chance to talk you up.

I've never been hit on at the gym like that. I've never seen it be an issue at the gyms I climb at. If someone did come up to me and started showing me some interest in me (ie- asking me to go for coffee, not staring blatenly at my brests) I'd be flattered. The only time I've really been hit on at a gym (meaning that I figured he had even a slight interest in me sexually) I gave him my number. He was a sweet guy, wish I had stayed in the province longer. If I was at a gym where a bunch of scum bags were hitting on me constanly I would have to stop going there. It's a climbing gym, not a bar.
