Oh, and I started leading because all my climbing friends were doing it. It was full on peer pressure.

And if push comes to shove, you can always use the search function. I'm fairly sure I worked it out on my own... (maybe even PMed someone asking if I was right... they said I wuzn't, and said something about pankakes.)

j_ung wrote: Oh, and I started leading because all my climbing friends were doing it. It was full on peer pressure. Me too. Bonus. At my gym, we get these laminated pink name tags with a rubberband to tie to our harness. That lets everybody know you've passed the lead test. What more motivation does one need to start leading?? Sadly, the rubberband broke and I don't remember when I last saw my nametag. I think this means I'm not allowed to lead anymore. This probably explains why I suck at it now...not that I was great at it before. I should go look for my name tag now.

I think its a bit more expensive than one of the certifications though.

Could someone tell me which end of the rope to tie into. I wouldn't want to use the wrong end.

Because, even way back then, I could sense the formation of cyberspace and the internet (this was early in my Jedi training), and by I knew that someday, somewhere, there would be a place called rockclimbing.com, where I could pose and troll and opine with the true heroes of our age, if only I could use the hardest, most expensive, dangerous, complicated means possible to avoid walking around a fairly tall chunk of rock... ...and because I saw a pic of Lynn Hill, all tanned and crankin' hard in France. I knew then she was destined to be the mother of my lovechild. Unfortunately, no one has gotten around to letting Lynn know, yet, and I'm afraid our season in the sun is long past.....

Lazlo wrote: PTFTW = Posts That (are) Effing Time Wasters? You have much to learn young grasshopper. To the first question. Back in the day, there were no gyms, and no sport routes. So if you wanted to climb up something tall, you had to lead it. And after climbing TR a bit you got to wanting to climbing taller rocks. Since nobody else wanted the lead, it fell to me. And I was wanting to try the sharp end. So there it is.

Have I become lost? Up here on the rock, leading, but not knowing where the route went?
