I'm in MN and even though we don't have mountains, we have a copious amount of really big bluffs and valleys. over 400 sport and trad climbs within 2 hours of Minneapolis/St Paul, and I've hit just about every one of them. Bouldering? got it. Deep water solo? got it (even though lake superior is cold as fuck). badass sport and trad climbing? got it. we even have polka music fests like every month.....you know....if you're into that sorta thing....which I'm hoping your not. in anycase, let me know if you're in the area, I'd love to show you around. also, no matter where you go on your trip...I'm sure I don't need to say this, but...lots of pictures, lots of video :D Don't worry, I know the meaning of cold DWS. Polka music fest? sounds hilarious. Can I show up in manky climbing stuff?

I'll prolly pass it while I'm over there, it's so easy compared to here (or so I hear and hope.) Hmm, check the DMV's in the states you are visiting - passing a test ain't hard, but having the right paperwork sometimes is...a drivers license here is almost like having residency rights, so they are strict about who can get one. Some may do temporary ones for visitors, but I'll bet some states will make it impossible for you to get a license. When I first moved here, I couldn't get a license without a social security number and address - I couldn't get a social security number without a visa and an address, I couldn't get an address without a government issued ID, I couldn't get gas and electricity without a social security number and I couldn't get a credit card without existing credit. It's a bastard, and Joseph Heller would be proud. All true^^^ With the old internet, you should be able to figure out what state will give you a drivers licsence. D

I may or may not be bringing a kilt. Just a warning, though. If I bring it, the harness goes under it- no turning it into shorts!

donald949 wrote: OK fair enough. When you get to JTree or So Cal let me know. Would love to hit the old JTree with you. Starting the first of the year, I'll have every other Fri off. Always willing to take one or two vacation days off to go climbing some place good. Just need to coordinate with my boss (AKA wife) and work. Sorry no room at the Inn though, got a house full of munchkins. Although watching somebody fall on Jtree rock in a kilt would be interesting in a sick sadist kind of way.

You should plan on making a little dip South of the border where you can climb thousands of feet of some of the best limestone ever baked with a single rope and a dozen quickdraws!!

I'm in NC too. I'm an Irish transplant but i spent 4 yrs in Edinburgh, climbing a lot at Alien Rock. Maybe between yourself and Limeydave we could make a good joke, you know... Englishman, Scotsman and an Irishman walk up to a climb....... Also if you like comps there are some good ones around in the next few months. Including the Triple Crown of bouldering Google it

If you are traveling through Oregon, hit me up, and I can climb with you in the PDX area, or at Smith Rock. I would look forward to climbing with you.

That would be cool. Don't expect me to be good or to be happy when you run circles around me.
