Looking for opinions on the best time of year to climb at Yosemite. Coming from the East Coast and will only have one week, so trying to avoid snow, rain and broiling heat as much as possible.

Heard June from one person, early September from another. Anybody got a suggestion?

I've been there in late June, and early September. Both were good. August sucks because of all the Tourons. But once you get more than 2 miles from a trail head it's ok though.

Mid-May into the first couple of weeks of June - late June can be Africa-HOT.

2nd week of Sept into (when it snows and sticks for good) - mid -late November (some years Oct.)

Gold Jerry, GOLD.

DMT

ps. If you're coming to climb I'd suggest the Fall. That way you'll have a summer of crankin under your belt when you show up, maximize your potential and all that...

Having to time the weather for trips is such a drag. I'm so happy to live nearby and be able to go on the spur of the moment.

The problem with both May and June is that even though they can be perfect, historically there is a higher probability of rain than in the Fall. And then you might have the dilemna that it's hard to get to anywhere to climb that is dry because, again historically, the passes may still be closed.

That's why I would vote for September, the third week, after the kids are all back to school. If by some chance it's too hot, you can still climb in Yosemite - just head up to the Meadows.

Thanks - looks like Sept is the best bet. Looking forward to getting out there!

It really depends on where you're climbing. If you're in the valley I'd say spring or fall. I went the first weekend of Oct. and it was beautiful in the valley.

If you're climbing the domes in Tuolumne then earlier in fall (camping up there closes in late Sept.) or later in spring (late May thru June maybe).

I also went in August and it was beautiful (but warm) up in the meadows, but hot as a mother in the valley.
